Failed. Unknown error.

Hi, I'm hoping someone can help me with this error. Over the last few weeks I've been getting problems with the tivo. First it started with picture and audio problems. Pops in the sound, blocky picture, out of sync sound, so I replaced the hard drive and then the next morning 6 out of 10 of my recordings said "Error. Not Recorded" and an explaination that I may not have the channels I was trying to record. So after reading on here a bit I saw that the PSU is the second most likely problem, so I replaced that, and all seemed to be fine, apart from I noticed that the daily calls aren't working. I tried a test call and it connected so I forced a daily call and the error I kept getting was "Failed. Unknown error." and then every now and then I got one saying the phone was busy although no one was using it. After 45 minutes of trying it connected, but now it's doing it again today. So has anyone got any ideas what the problem might be?
Oh and just to let you know, there's no hacks, or upgrades apart from the 160gb hard drive.
Thanks for any ideas

Update
I've just done an emergancy reinstall and it seems to be working again now.

If by 'emergency reinstall' you mean the one initiated by the kickstart diagnostics method, then you could find that if your 160GB drive was running the LBA48 kernel, it isn't any more.

Worth checking anyway.

Yeah that's what I meant. I checked and it still says 185hrs basic, so hopefully that means it's going to be fine now.

It will say that even without the LBA48 kernel

See this post for details of how to check which kernel is running.

Damn, I can't really be bothered to take it apart again to do that, after how many times I've took it apart already these last couple of weeks. I can cope with just having 137gb for now, I had 40gb for long enough. Thanks for letting me know though.

You can find the same information in the kernel log after a reboot and can view the logs onscreen if you don't have network access.

The problem would be that you wouldn't just be limited to 137GB. The MFS partitions are setup for 160GB (which is why your TiVo displays 185 hours) so when the old kernel tries to access something past 137GB the address wraps and it accesses something at 0+the remainder - potentially causing irrecoverable corruption to the MFS.

OK, I finally found it, and yeah it's the buildmaster17 kernel. Guess I'm going to have to take it back out and install the new LBA48 kernel.
Thanks for the help.

Well I think I've got it done now. The log shows the right kernel and it's listing the right hard drive size and the daily call works too.
Thanks for the help.
