Sounds OK to me, as long as you are willing to go on the hook. Not sure how it worked for JoBeth for D.C., but everything seemed to work out OK. Is the $99 rate from Expedia all pre-paid in advance?

I'm in for two nights.

I think what she is saying smeek is that the expedia rate is completely separate from having to sign a contract.

Yeah, I understand. Just trying to fiugre out if there are any other differences. Pre-paid, different type of roon, etc. If you go to Starwood.com, you get the $99 rate as well. What do we get for $119 that we don't get for $99? If there is no difference, it would seem to make sense to simply avoid a group rate and have people book on their own.

In the past, I have only used expedia to make plane reservations. I assume that you pay them when you make your reservations. Is that what you mean by pre-paid in advance?

I would rather book through expedia and save the $40 for other incendentals.

In the end it is up to the group to make a decision.

Yes. That's what I mean by pre-paid. For hotels, I personally avoid pre-paying. Normally, you pay for a hotel stay when you check out, not before you show up. Pre-paying can save a ton of money. But it's almost always non-feundable, non-cancellable, non-changeable.

There is no difference in what you get from booking online vs. the group rate.

$99 <> $119 or am I missing something? It's not a deal breaker just want to be clear where and how we get the better rate before I book anything.

Agreed on the "one" hotel.

Miami/SoBe will be priced at a premium, no doubt.

So staying at this Bal Harbour hotel seems like a very good way to save some $$, while still allowing us to stay in conveniently located spot... near the beach!

There's lots to do all around... even some of the suggested events were in FLL.

I think she means that "no difference" in terms of extra accommodations or "goodies" for the group, if we all called under the same code for $119.

DeeDee, did you mention that Expedia price to the Hotel Rep? Maybe they'd match it?

If not, I suggest we all just book individually via Expedia for $99/night. Why not, it's cheaper. Anyone got a link that takes us to right to the hotel's expedia page? That might make it easier to spread the word.

Exactly. That's what I was asking. The hotel seems great, and I'm actually content to spend the bulk of my time there.

If the group rate is going to require one night of pre-payment anyone, then two nights on a lower rate won't kill me.

I did mention the Expedia price to the Hotel Rep, but he didn't seem all that interested in matching it. If someone tells me how I can post a link to the hotel on Expedia.

Weird that the quoted "group rate" is $20 more per night -- and the CSR wouldn't budge? Their own hotel's website signup shows it's just $99... you'd think the "group rate" would be less than that (if we were able to guarantee 15-20 rooms or so.)

Not a big deal either way. We can just share Smeek's $99 link and do it all that way, if they don't want to unify us with a group code.

who knows.. especially if it's the for the same room type. Maybe the group rate guarantees all the rooms we need at that rate, and the $99 rate has a limited number of rooms at that rate??

Anyway, yeah, all the hotels these days say they gaurantee the best rates, so it doesn't surprise me at all that the rate at the Sheraton site is the same at Expedia.

Edit: I like the room description for the $99 room. They call it "intimate and cozy". Might be OK if it wasn't just me in the room.

When I checked last night the rate to get non-stop roundtrip was higher. You only got nonstop one way at the cheaper price. As I recall the BWI-FLL leg was NS but the returns all went via ATL. If you asked for NS both ways the rate went up to something in the high $100's.

Might want to check it. Maybe they changed it after I looked since that was before you posted.

My confirmation shows non-stop both ways. Maybe the prices went down shortly after you checked.

Can you PM me the details. The cheapest NS RT I found last night was way more. The cheapest NS RT I can find now is 207 on Airtran.

Edited to add, just read your last post. Sure can't find that now. ARGHHHHHHHH.
