Recommendations for Freeview HDDR?

My parents are struggling with how to record from a digital channel to their VCR - the having to set the VCR timer and then remember to leave the STB tuned in to the right channel until the event confuses them.

So, I'm going to fork out for a hard-disk recorder with digital tuner(s) for them. Any recommendations? A nice EPG they could just select from for recordings would be good, and something quiet is essential.

Apart from a TiVo, I don't see any freeview hard disk PVRs being any good.

If you can get one for 50 quid go for it!

I did think about getting them a TiVo, but I think having to deal with a single, separate STB would be too complicated for them.

I'm looking now at the Topfield TF5800T and the imminent Inverto IDL 700. The Panasonic TUCTH100 is rumoured to be noisy and "hangy", and the otherwise wonderful Thomson DHD4000 is just too ugly.

You may find the review over at http://www.pvruk.com/pvruk/2005/03/review_inverto_.html useful.

Good review and it looks a nice machine.

Another thing that is missing from these PVRs is an Endpad style soft padding function. Two tuners aren't as useful if the few minutes hard padding on each program causes clashes.

Ta, Pix. Yup - I have a black one on order from Unbeatable - due any week now. The biggest item missing from it for me is that apparently you can't start watching a programme it, then do something else with the UI, and come back to the programme where you left off.
