You can rename the prompt by:

hostname "hostname of your choice without quotes" # Insert your hostname
echo "hostname " `hostname` >>/etc/rc.d/rc.sysinit.author # Just like its written
echo "export PS1=\"\h #\"">/etc/profile

These are the instructions found at the bottom of http://www.dellanave.com/projects/tivo/62slices.html

After you run this, if you exit and telnet back in, you will see the name.

actually, Jamie has gotten usb->usb working (with pretty good xfer speeds)... see the other forum for details

(of course, that limits cable length to 6 ft. IIRC)

If my TivoWebPlus via MFS shows

Code:
3.1.1e-01-2-381 tyDb 134902 10/24/04 02:34 692 6.2-01-2-101 tyDb 649705 04/05/05 02:45 696 6.2-01-2-121 tyDb 649707 04/05/05 02:45 696 6.2-01-2-151 tyDb 649708 04/05/05 02:45 696 6.2-01-2-301 tyDb 649709 04/05/05 02:45 696 6.2-01-2-321 tyDb 649710 04/05/05 02:45 696 6.2-01-2-351 tyDb 649711 04/05/05 02:45 696 6.2-01-2-381 tyDb 530483 02/26/05 04:17 696 6.2-01-2-3F1 tyDb 649712 04/05/05 02:45 696 ACTIVE tyDb 134902 10/24/04 02:34 692

And the ACTIVE SW is 3.1.1e-01-2-381 then I just need to do the slices install on the file that ends in the last same 3 numbers?

[EDIT]
And how do I find those slices on my TIVO? I just searched my TIVO (via FTP) for 30 minutes and didnt find anything that even looked remotely like slices.

you just need to run the install script and call the version matching your tivo's service number. The lices have already been dbloaded if they are showing up like that in tivoweb.
Make sure you modify the install script to avoid rebooting if you plan on hacking the tivo any further, otherwise you are pulling the drive again to killhdinitrd the kernel.

You will not find the slices with FTP. They are in MFS, and the only way to rummage in there is with TWP.

Thanks for the info!!! EDonkey finished my download before I started the upgrade so I just used those slices and followed the dellanave instructions...Worked like a charm

Loopsets

When I did the upgrade to 4.0, I did two of my boxes by slices and one without. I kind of understand why I only see 6.2 on the two that I did with slices (have loopsets). My question is can I use the old loopsets (4.0 version) to allow me to see the 6.2 stuff and not have to go to eDonkey to download? The download is not a big deal, but I don't want to do if I don't have too because last time it took a long time and then there was something wrong with the files.

If I can, do I just dbload the loopsets and I will be in the same starting point as the other two boxes (everything else where it should be from the satellite download)?

Thanks,

HMO active, but no MRV

I've upgraded my 6.2 Directivo with the superpatch and now have Tivo Desktop. I can access my photos and music, however the MRV function says that no DVR is connected. I have even tried JavaHMO and again everything works but the MRV.

Any suggestions as to what my problem might be?

Thanks!

MRV requires two hacked DTiVos. Do you have that? MRV has nothing to do with TiVo Desktop.

I've found that dumb questions are the easiest for me to answer.

You could always compile tivoserver and then you could sent shows off to your PC and MRV them back to your box when you have time to watch them. Oh yeah, Todd, I want everyone to use tivoserver.

Yes, in fact they posted a binary package of the current version on their site.

Where can I find some good information on Tivoserver? The sourceforge.net site does not appear to have any documentation.

Grisbane the readme in CVS references their wiki, which does not look to have much background, but it *does* reference the support thread for the product. I don't know if I can link to it directly, so get it from the wiki.
Gunny, I have not tried the OSX version, but am downloading it now. Back when it is done, but don't hold your breath - I have DirecWay so it will take longer than you think.
