So an old DTiVo (Hughes SD-DVR40) is now running 4.01b and upgraded to 136 hours per Weethet! Awesome.
Question is... what's next? I'm at a bit of a deficit since I do not actually own a satellite -- I got this DVR for free. What can I do with it at this point? I do not mind keeping it just to hack on, but without programming on it, it rules out lots of the fun stuff (tivoweb, for example).
Does HME (7.1) run on any of these models? Anything to simulate it? Any other ideas appreciated!
EDIT: Just checked out the guide. Looks ok, but what will I get from 6.2? I'm also no linux guru, so this is definitely putting me through the paces.
One of my main hopes was that I would be able to tranfer shows (or anything) to watch on the SD-DVR40 since it cannot record any programs on its own (no satellite). Maybe thats not possible though. My 2 other TiVos see the DTivo, but as it is not 7.1, I can't get much farther than that. I was just in hopes of getting more direct usage out of it at this point.
Unless you hack your other TiVos, you're not going to be able to share shows between them and the DirecTiVo. Only TiVos hacked with the Superpatch can share shows; an unhacked machine can't share shows with a hacked one and vice versa.
Without actually using it to record things, I'm afraid about the only thing you'll be able to use it for is to listen to your MP3s using HMO.
I guess it will make its way to ebay then... how much trouble/risk is it to apply the superpatch to a non-hacked tivo? For this one, I didn't care if I screwed up, the others... let's just say my wife has RSOCD (reality show obsessive compulsive disorder).
