Survivor Finale/Reunion Warning

This is my semi-annual warning on the Survivor Finale & Reunion shows. This is not related to conflicts (Desperate HW, whatever).

The Finale is Sunday Dec 11, 7-9 (Central). The Reunion Special is 9-10. The Finale almost ALWAYS runs over a minute or two, and the winner is usually revealed around 9:03. If you only set it to record the Finale and not the Reunion Show, you WILL miss the winner. My advice, if you normally like to record the Reunion show anyway, is to delete the recording of the Reunion show, and then pad the Finale by an hour. That gives you one long (3 hour) contiguous show. If you do not want the Reunion show, then pad the Finale by 10 minutes or so.

The Season Pass should catch both shows, unlike some previous seasons, as the Reunion Special has the same title (IOW, it's considered another episode of Survivor). My To-Do list had both, with a warning that "clipping" was in effect. (I pad Survivor a couple minutes.)

The remaining episodes are this Thur Dec 1 (from 6->5) and next Thur Dec 8 (from 5->4). The Final Four face-off Sunday, December 11. Four hours of Survivor over the next 12 days!

Stuart

Just a note that the title has nothing to do with it being considered part of the series or not. Each show has a "series code" that indicates which series it's a part of. You can see these codes if you enable back-doors on your Tivo.

For Survivor, best bet is a single keyword season pass wishlist call "Survivor" with themes/reality. Then you'll get each new season, and the reunion shows.

That's true, but it's a mostly reliable indicator. In any case, it's been several seasons since the reunion show was not an episode of the series, with the same "series code," so the SP will catch both. The wishlist usually catches other unintended programs, which as a matter of personal preference may be either good or bad. It does save you from having to re-create the SP every season, as each season of Survivor has a distinct title and series code.

That's true but it catches those other shows extremely rarely, in my experience. I've had many season passes that caught more unintended programs (often recording repeats when it was set to FRO) than my Survivor wishlist does.

For those with only one TiVo tuner, this alert should also note that this goes up against ABCs strong Sunday Night Lineup: The Crying Show, Whiney Women, and Hot Doctors.......er, I mean Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, Desperate Housewives, and Grey's Anatomy.

CBS is showing a late NFL game on Sunday, Dec 11, so it's very likely that the entire evening schedule will be delayed -- anywhere from a half hour to a full hour. Pad accordingly.

I'll be manually recording a 3-to-4-hour block of time on CBS, starting at 7pm CDT.

Actually, Extreme Makeover is a 2-hour special that night, no DH, but Grey's Anatomy is on and it's new.

Thanks for the heads-up about football, it is a CBS doubleheader weekend so most of the country will likely have a late game. The Reunion is "live" though, IIRC, so does that mean parts of the country with no late game will know the winner before the markets that are running late? I'm sure it's happened before, I just don't remember.

Football always messes up the Sunday prime time schedules. Too bad there's not a time limit rule in football.

CBS is the main culprit. FOX realigns its schedule fairly quickly after a football overflow, but CBS slides everything forward an arbitrary amount of time, and the local affiliate (WCCO) follows suit all the way into the middle of the night!

Note to CBS: 60 Minutes sucks these days. Let it drop out of the schedule rather than making Cold Case conflict with two other shows.
