TiVo, STB Cable, & RED EYE SENSOR?

Hi,

Does anyone know if it is possible to use TiVo with a cable box with a red eye sensor?

This is because i have a Pace Di2000T cable box and this receives IRDA not IR, so i need a red eye sensor that goes over the IR receiver on my STB so my Philip's Pronto can send signals and control it. Would this affect the TiVo as i belive a TiVo needs IR Emitters?

Thanks

Hi,

That is exactly the set up that I use for my NTL cable box and it has worked well for years.

ok, so the TiVo IR Emitters go over the red-eye remote? that why you can still cntrol the STB and TiVo etc?

thanks lee

Not quite, the good thing about the Red Eye is that is eliminates the need for the Tivo IR wands and their associated wires and mains power requirement.

So you just put the Red Eye over the IR sensor on the Pace box, set the Tivo to use the front IR Blaster and then to use code Pace 20035 Medium. That works for me anyway.

ok, and then that means my pronto will now control my pace Di2000T and i don't need the TiVo cable adapter?

sounds good so far...

so there is no need for me to buy a TiVo cable adapter because I can use the red-eye remote? But isn't the cable adapter cheaper and it still enables me to control with my pronto?

cheers

It's entirely up to you. They both work perfectly well.

The main reason I got the Red Eye is because it cuts down on the number of cables under the TV, and specifically, it gets it's power from the cable box so it doesn't need it's own mains socket.

Happy New Year!

Lee.
