Cool Kiss Army --- Fall IN!!!

OK show yourselves! I'll admit it, I'm a huge fan of the band Kiss -- I love the old stuff, I grew up with the 80's versions of the band, and even Psycho Circus has some good tunes on it. The '96 Reunion tour was as big for me as the Second Coming is for many others. Let's hear about your Kiss memories!!

To get things started, here's a picture from about 5 years ago of some coworkers and me on Halloween. I wanted to be Gene but the other guy had a better face shape (but not the right tongue.)

I'm Ace.

If most of the Kiss Army fell in now they'd break many a hip.

Nobody wanted to be Ace

I take back any nice things I might have said about you in the outsider thread.

You are indeed a freak to be shunned.

j/k

I bet there's a lot of people here who have Star Wars costumes hanging in their closets.

Myself included -- sometimes you gotta take one for the team.

I was Paul at a party in college -- THAT was a fun night.

ooooh KISS! So 'in your face'/'raucous'/'edgy!'

I guess that's why the new guy in the band was named to the Board at the college across the street from my work!

Some friends and I dressed up like KISS for Halloween back in, oh, '77 or so. I was the fat kid so I got to be the "manager" but I still had makeup. We did pretty good on the candy collection with that get-up...

I'm not a Kiss fan, but one of the biggest arguments I ever had with a friend (who was a huge Kiss fan) was when I asserted that Kiss was known by more people for their look than for their music.

My premise was that if you randomly selected 200 people and put 100 in a room with just a radio playing Kiss' greatest hits and the other 100 in a room with a poster of the band, more people in the 2nd room would be able to name the group.

He didn't like that. To the point it almost came to blows. Pretty stupid thing to argue about, huh?

KISS story:

My friend and I were at a KISS music video shoot around 1978 or 1979. Nope, not KISS fans, just happened to be there. (Magic Mountain, late at night.)

My friend to Gene Simmons (with a BIG Texas accent): Hell, I'd dress up like that too if I could make as much as you.

Gene: We don't do it for the money.

Friend: The hell you don't.

Gene: We do it for religious purposes. We worship money. (Grin. Wink.)

Not necessarily funny, but my brief brush with KISS.

I was a big KISS fan back in the day. Saw them live in '77. They lost me at Dynasty.

Well, it also enabled him to pork Shannon Tweed (among numerous others)

KISS was the reason I picked up a guitar.

Beginning in late '75/ early '76 at the age of 10, I got my first KISS album, Alive!, followed shortly afterward by Destroyer. By the time I was 12, all I wanted was a guitar -- and my cousin, who is the same age as me wanted a drum kit. We used to put on KISS shows in our basement using tennis rackets as guitars and playing a drum kit made of pillows and cushions. Finally in 1978, we both got real instruments -- and we've been playing together ever since (*cough* diggerphelps.net *cough*)

In 1979, we got to see KISS for the first time at Madison Square Garden on the Dynasty Tour -- it was nothing short of phenomenal!

A few years ago, we were fortunate enough to participate in a KISS compilation CD for which recorded the KISS classic, 'C'mon and Love Me'.

I forgot to add that I really was a member of the Kiss Army (fan club), not just a fan. I put the iron-on insignia on the back of my denim jacket.

That wouldn't have been a standard issue Levi's denim jacket would it?

Too funny -- they actually said they brought him aboard to get some publicity. Tommy's a great player, I've enjoyed his work a long time. But, I'm not sure I like him taking on the Space Ace persona. and having Eric Singer as Catman? Sheesh, you'd think they're only in it for the money!

You see that beer commercial that's a trial and the lawyer brings in an expert witness on taste?

The prosecutor objects because it's obviously (non-makeup) Gene Simmons. The defense asks Simmons to show his tongue after which the judge says, "I'll allow it."

I think it's Miller Lite, but not sure. Kinda funny.

I am a true soldier as well. Been a fan since the mid 70's when I realized that I could piss my mom off to no end by just mentioning their name. I saw on of the many "last reunion tours" in Madison Square Garden somewhere around 1996 or 1997. I was first row, first section but not on the floor. My friends and I were directly below Gene Simmon's and got some of his "blood" on us. I'll never wash that denim jacket again.

My Levi's denim jacket was covered in Metallica, Megadeath and Anthrax patches. I wore workboots and a wicked cool mullet as well.

Chris

Even though in 1976 I thought that Kiss Alive was one of the best albums around (along with Rush, 2112), I didn't get to see Kiss until the late '80 with Bruce Kulick and Eric Singer. It was a good show, but not the way I always envisioned it. Then came '96 and I saw them reunited and in makeup at the Tacoma Dome. That was the way I envisioned it, and it is one of the best concerts that I have been to, even though I was 20 years too late.
