OK, out-of-towners (or in-towners who don't want to cook): Mrs. bsnelson (aka TFMB) and I would like to offer an idea that will benefit us all. If you're wanting to contribute some money to the potluck in lieu of doing the cooking yourself or bringing something storebought, we're going to offer a "cooking service"!

We've listed five of our favorite, tried-and-true, guaranteed delicious specialties below, along with the approximate cost of ingredients. We're not trying to make any money here; we're just wanting to break even on the food itself and disposable pans for prep/serving. If you want to "sponsor a dish", speak up and we'll sign you up. We'll collect the day of the potluck. We're expecting as many as FORTY people at this thing, so if two people want to sponsor the same dish, we can make a double batch.

Mac & cheese $10 (serves 6-8 people)
Meat loaf $15 (serves 6-8)
(the above are from the "Food 911" episode recipes seen here, These are a little costly because we use top quality ingredients and there are no fillers)
Deviled eggs $10 (2 dozen whole eggs; usually serves 14-16)
Green enchiladas $20 (serves 20-24, a crowd pleaser)
Sweet potato casserole $10 (serves 8-10)

The last three are family recipes that we've made for other people numerous times before, and they're very well received. The enchiladas recipe makes a LOT of food; I suppose it could be halved, but I bet if we brought a whole recipe to an event like this, they'd be gone.

Denise and I are making banana pudding and a huge vat-o-chili as our personal contributions (free of charge ), but I think this would be a good chance for some folks to turn cash into homecooked food. If you're interested, please speak up soon, as we'll need to start buying and cooking within the next couple of days.

Edit: Here is the final "sponsorship" scoreboard. Thanks to all of our sponsors!

Mac & cheese, presented by harvscar
Green enchiladas, presented by faerie
Meat loaf, presented by zero
Sweet potato casserole, presented by Langree
Deviled eggs, presented by Rcrew

Brad

Yes, there is meat involved; does that change your answer? If you still want to sponsor, just bring the money and we'll do the handoff sometime during the weekend.

Good catch! Yes, it was one of those deals where, although I'm not a huge SA fan, that song just struck a chord with me from the first time I heard it back in the mid '90s.

mmm. depends what kind of meat... chicken? or beef? I don't eat red meat so I'd probably want to go in on something that I could eat =)

I'm with you on that song. There are only 2 songs by SA that I can say that I enjoy and that song is probably one of my favorite songs I've heard in a long time =)

Well, it's usually beef, but I tell ya what: I'll make half chicken and half beef if you still want to sponsor the dish. I'll keep the chicken and beef seperate during cooking and prep. Deal?

Brad

The meat loaf sounds good.
I'll subsidize the making of that.

I'm hoping to go shopping tonight - does someone want to sponsor the deviled eggs? I promise they'll be the most awesome you've ever had! They'll be served in two trays like the one seen here:

and we can even put your name on them as the sponsor!

OK, we'll keep the "voting" open until this afternoon, and if nobody else steps up, you're it! Thanks!

Edit: This afternoon has come and gone, Langree is our official deviled eggs sponsor. Thanks, Langree!

Edit, too: We have a late arrival to the homecooking sponsorship: Rcrew has agreed to take over deviled egg sponsorship! Don't worry, Langree, we'll still make sure you get some deviled eggs, and thanks for stepping up initially!

Brad

OK, I have another little surprise for the potluck (and LITTLE is the keyword): A sampling supply of Dublin Dr. Pepper, the fabulous Imperial cane sugar sweetened Dr. Pepper. The stuff is high dollar ($7 for six 10 ounce bottles ), so we have one six pack from which we can dispense samples.

Bribes may be accepted for complete bottles

OK gang.... I'm gonna need a LARGE cooler for some of the sodas/bottled water that StanSimmons is bringing. Can anyone bring that along with them on Friday?

Also, I may pick up two or three 12 packs of soda before the Shindig on Saturday. Any requests?

You are planning on taking some of the water/sodas to the mini-golf too, right?

Actually, I hadn't been, since they don't allow outside food or drink on the premesis.
