Telewest's new PVR launch with HDTV

http://www.telewest.co.uk/html/tv_drive/New_Tabs/

It's launched today, looks good, and i see it includes HDTV support.

However, not sure I'll be switching anytime soon, as they want £15 a month for it as I don't have their top package.

Ouch!

Alex

As I reported yesterday but used an existing thread Do people actually not bother to read Forums before they post

Yeah, I had the same thought as I'm only on the Essential pack myself. I'm hoping they might give me one for a month to do a review on my site

Actually, that's not a bad idea. They should give it away for one month to anyone who wants one. I'm willing to bet that they don't get many back at the end of the month!!

A good point, but it did morph into a more relevant thread I should have known better, though

My experience of TW hardware is that they'll probably get most of them back at the end of the month, at least while their beta testers, sorry customers find the kinks in the system.

I'm a supreme customer but I won't be playing for now. I note from that link...

Aint that friendly?

Multiple tuners would be nice but £10 a month for the new box + £5 a month to keep the existing box to play with Tivo rules that out for me for now.

No idea which thread is 'most appropriate' but as this one is in the right forum and it's only vaguely Tivo related...

Fairly light weight comparison of Sky+ 160 and TV Drive.

On a related Cable note. Got a letter telling me to expect the Teleport Video on Demand upgrade in the next few days. It's free as I'm on Supreme - woo hoo! Still it's a nice easy way to resolve the odd clash - missed recording.

Sorry to burst your bubble TB, but most of the functionality of Teleport is free on all packages. Only premium content such as complete series/seasons of stuff is chargeable to lower packages than Supreme

No bubble to burst Carl, obviously my sarcasm in the "woo hoo!" comment wasn't explictly marked - this sounds pretty lame to a Tivo user. I already have access to more than the last 7 days of TV programmes I actually want to see not "I'm a ballroom dancing celebrity in the space jungle get me a new contract or I'm out of here - the upsetters remixed revival" or whatever they're peddling these days.
..and who is TB?

Just read I'll be able to watch whole series of "French and Saunders" and "Waking the dead" - without spending an extra £5 - at the risk of repeating myself "woo hoo!".

Hmmm. Well, not everyone has a PVR and may find the functionality of Teleport rather useful.

Oh, and <annoyed grunt> Brain-fart TB=TheBear. Not sure why I thought it was him posting

I have homechoice VOD and though its great if you haven't had a DVR before, it is woefully lame and has no wow factor if you have been a TiVo user for 7 or 8 years.

I think I would probably be similarly unimpressed with teleport.

If Strictly Come Dancing and X-Factor was on VOD it would be helpful for SWMBO though.

Sadly, TiVo has spoilt us and raised expectations so far that even my xbox360 is not that impressive to me.

Now the Telewest TVdrive pilot is underway, are there any Tivo users who would care to share their views? It has some features which are clearly better than Tivo, but do they compensate for any other shortcomings it may have?
