Note DRT800 repair - experience?

Recently the S-Video output of my DRT800 has started to flash colors across my TV. I've changed cables and the problem remains. I'm going to assume it's a bad S-Video output jack. Everything else works fine. --- I bought my unit in January of 2005.

Can anyone share their experience with Humax service for repairs? -- i.e. Is there a flat service rate or would the repair be ''time and materials''? Would I get the same unit back (I have shows recorded on the HD and Tivo settings I''d hate to lose)?

Thanks,

I don't think you'd get the same unit back.

When I called and told them that the Fan wasn't working on the back of my unit, they said there were two options.

Give them a CC# so they could place a hold on the Card. They would then send out a "New" unit (They didn't tell me if it would be refurbished or not.) in 5 to 7 days, then ship the old unit back to them within X number of days. I think she said 30 days, I don't remember, but if they didn't get the old unit, they charged the CC for the new unit.

OR, Send the unit back to them, once they received the old one, they'd send a new one... It could take more than a month she said....

Give them a call, discuss your options. You may get someone who is willing to work with you, then again, you may have someone who just wants to get you off the phone and tell you that your only option is to "suck it up" and lose all the shows...

Losing the TIVO settings -- a pain but not impossible to recover from..

Losing teh shows? Umm.. it's a DVD burning TIVO.. burn them to disc..

Thanks

Thanks guys. I appreciate the replies.

Yes, it would only be a small inconvenience to re-training a virgin HUMAX, but I'd rather not have to do so.

The programs aren't that important, that is to say that I'd not record them all to DVD just to keep them, but I'd rather not lose them.

All good thoughts.

Now waiting for HUMAX's response to my email of yesterday.

Thanks again!
