Can a TiVo DVD unit record itself??

OK, haven't looked into this too much, but was wondering whether one could output the Humax or Toshiba RS units to their own front panel inputs.

That way, one could put the material on a burned DVD back onto the TiVo...

Yep, definitely have too much time on my hands if I'm thinking of questions like this.

Well, you couldn't use "Record from video camera or VCR", because you can't be playing a DVD and using that feature at the same time.

I suppose you could use the old hack of setting up a manual record, and then start playing the DVD at the correct time, but a far more elegant solution is to simply use an external DVD player and "Record from video camera or VCR".

Hmm... so I could start the DVD playing and then manually record...

too much time (on my hands!) I've become spoiled by fast DVD burning. It's so great vs. VCR nursing and an hour for an hour.

You'll have to connect the broken Humax's outputs to the new Humax's inputs. Then, for each recording you want to "transfer", use Pick Programs to Record -> Record From a Video Camera or VCR on the new Humax, and start playing the recording on the broken Humax at the right time.

Not fun, but it works if you need it to.
