Dumb question re:OTA recording

I don't get OTA, but my son-in-law is visiting from Springfield, MO and is thinking about getting an HDTivo. He's on cable now with a SA Tivo and is addicted to Tivo features. He probably can't get networks over D* (correct me on this if I'm wrong) but appears to be able to get HD OTA. Can he record OTA HD broadcasts with the HD Tivo? If so, how many hours will it hold? I assume OTA doesn't have the same kind of comression that D* has.

Yes... He can record HD-OTA broadcasts.
35ish hours of HD content can recorded on a stock HR10-250

OTA has "less" compression then DirecTV's HD networks, but not enough to make a big difference the amount that unit can record.

Yes, the HR10-250 is capable of OTA recording. D* quote the capacity of the HD DVR with TiVo at up to 30 hrs HD and/or 200 hrs SD (or a combination). However, the box is upgradable and Weaknees even offers an upgraded box with a Terrabyte of storage, effectively quadrupling these capacities.

As for network HD availability, I think Springfield is way down the list, so no locals yet. I'm not sure on this - I'm sure someone in that area can update.
