Is there a way to differentiate the year within an AWL? I would like to record the episodes of "The Practice" but only the programs that were
aired in 2000 and beyond. The program description shows the name of the episode in quotes the reflects the episode date as (1998) or (1999) etc. I've experimented with severals alternatives to capture only the shows that I want but to no avail. Any suggestions?

Thanks - Herb

Note AWLs rule!

As a note, you have to have backdoors turned on to use the '0' method.

I just replaces 30-40 Actor/Director wishlists with a handful of advanced wishlists. Very freakin' cool. Organizing my SPs no longer takes 5-10 minutes.

I also replaced a bunch of my low priority SP's (cartoons, cooking shows, etc) into AWLs, too. The lack of a "negative" modifer means my "BIG KIDS TOONS" AWL will pick up the old Batman TV series and 1969 movie (which is fine, actually) and the new movies (which is not fine for the most part, but I can deal).

I think you're in luck! Just add a keyword item of "200*" to the list then thumbs-up it (make it required)

If you wanted everything after eg. 1997 then you'd have to create 4 separate AWLs

Until the new backdoor code is released in future SW updates it maybe smart to make some generic ones.

I didn't know how long it would take for the backdoor codes to come in, so I made 7 or so advanced wishlists for key work "Blank", "Blank02", "Blank03"....ect. Now that my Tivo Has upgraded, I can still go through and edit them to what I want, it works pretty nicely!

I know this doesn't help once the update is done, but maybe someone culd learn from us prevent some futuer problems.

Doesn't do me much good right now, though.

Aargh! Me neither. I knew about this feature while I still had 3.0, but I had never needed it until now. So I came searching for how to enable it, with fingers crossed that backdoors wouldn't be required, but, *sniff* no luck. Sure wish I had followed Nate's advice and made some blank ones. Sob!

Surprised no one has turned up the backdoor code by now.

BTW it worked under 2.5.2 DTiVo (Node 28 or 29) and I still have advanced wishlists with 3.x.

Is there any way to enable Advanced Wishlists on a Series 2?

If it has been posted, sorry I missed it.

Also is this feature expected in 4.0?

Again, if this has been covered, sorry I missed it.

Apparently only by changing the backdoor password hash to the hash of a known password. And I don't know where it is explained how to do that.

Someone on another forum helped me to get backdoors enabled on my HDVR2 Series 2 DirecTiVo @ 3.1.1c.

I know this is a dusty ol' thread, but I wanted to FYI everyone that, when I press 0 at the Create a Wishlist screen, the Advanced option does not appear in the picklist, but rather I am tossed directly into the advanced wishlist creation screen. Just in case some other poor soul is traveling down the same path as I.

I want the Advanced Wishlist option to appear full-time, so the wife will remember that it exists. One wonders if I'm safe using the node editor in the manner discussed in this thread...

I haven't been following this thread, but hackman has a feature that permanently enables advanced wishlists. It's a click to enable backdoors and another click for the advanced wishlists. Works great on my S1 3.0.

Is that possible without hacking one's TiVo; in other words, can it be done simply from the remote control?

It cannot be done from the remote. You must have BASH access.

If we limit the discussion to only MOVIES, then 4 separate AWLs aren't necessary. In order to deal with the "200 Show Limit" when Viewing Upcoming Programs, I have the following Wishlists:
  • Movies & 200*
  • Movies & 199*
  • Movies & 198*
  • Movies 1930 Thru 1979 (which consists of):
    1. 197*
    2. 196*
    3. 195*
    4. 194*
    5. 193*

(N1 and (R1 and R2 and R3...)) or (N2 and (R1 and R2 and R3...)) or (N3 and (R1 and R2 and R3...))...

In other words, the WishList still operates as an OR of the non-required items, except that each non-required item is first ANDed with the set of all required items.

We can simplify the boolean expression to come up with another way to look at it (DrStrange's way):

(R1 and R2 and R3...) and (N1 or N2 or N3...)

Too bad about the DATE field and NON-MOVIES though. After a solid 30 unsuccessful minutes of experimenting with Keywords last night, I was lucky to discover ONE Actor who was in the series during the year I was missing. Adding his name with a "Thumbs-Up" *FINALLY* returned the desired results...
