When 6.2 is up and running on a unit will just new season pass recordings be put into folders or will previous season pass recordings also go into the newly created folders? I'm guessing it'll just be the new recordings.

Any thoughts?

Question, if D* does offer HMO as a premium service (you pay for it), will installing 4.0 be considered as steeling service???

It most likely will, as we will be getting something for free that we should be paying for. The other forum has said that if D* does offer HMO, all threads about upgrading to 4.x will be removed from the site. I would guess that our own moving to 4.0 thread will be chopped, as well. Doesn't mean people won't still be using 4.0, though. Just won't be able to discuss it.

Anyone create or seen an 40gb RID Image yet for 6.2?

Since I have a system that died... Can't hurt to try and put it on (DSR704)

I would have to say that that is a pretty big IF.

Background images in 6.2

I missed the 9999 parm when I replaced the dying drive in my DSR7000 so now I've got transparent menus. Will 6.2 fix them so I don't have to hassle w/trying to recover them?

Actually I've heard that the HR10 has a similar, but not identical 6.x upgrade in the pipeline that was scheduled to be delivered during the late spring.

A bigger question does remains whether the HR10 will be declared obsolete and entirely replaced with a new MPEG4 model.

Good question... I don't think it will, since the menu transparentcies didn't change, so I don't know why they would be in the slice.

Please let us know if it fixes...

This board is not sponsered by DirecTV or TiVo. I seriously doubt they would pull any threads as long as they fall within the guidelines of this forum.

If people are using the 4.x software to avoid paying for the (theoretical) 6.x HMO, TiVo may not care, but D* will no doubt take notice. The other forum would remove the 4.x on RID threads voluntarily, as one of their mods stated. They are pretty strict about anything that could even be percieved as service theft.

Temecula, CA. Received a postcard two days ago, 6.2 is live this morning.
Near instant response on menu selections and deleting a program.
Searching with a Wish List was less than 5 seconds (54 results).
Deleting a Season Pass was less than 10 seconds.
Folders are instantly a "how did I live without this?" feature. I've been deleting old programs all morning.

But you have to realize that the chances of DirecTV activating HMO/MRV on the DirecTiVos are about the same as John Kerry becoming the 44th President in 2005! The silliness of your conjectures boggles the mind of sane people.

All I am saying is that IF HMO is made active by D* on 6.2, AND they charge for it, anyone using 4.0 for HMO can be considered to be stealing service. If it is made available at no charge, 4.0 will not be a problem. Believe me, I know it is a huge if.

Maybe they should have used a better naming scheme.

In the past hardware made no difference in version numbers- only the 3 digit model id was differnt. In fact it doesn't with this release either becasue the series 2 and series 2 with RID are different hardware versions. If hardware made a difference then maybe some would be getting 6.2 and others 6.3.

Of course D* is involved now so whatever TiVo did int he past means nothing. Maybe the pick version numbers by pulling names from a hat....

RID is minor hardware difference and requires (if I recall) one different driver for the mpeg decoder. I would not really consider RID a major hardware difference and the core TiVo software is exactly the same. The series 1 DirecTiVos run 3.1.0 and the series 2 DirecTiVo run 3.1.1 so there is a version difference between hardware.

Aaron this great news. I was really skeptical about how "fast" the menus will be. It sounds evrything is optimized.

And according to Dan Collins MRV is not in the "foreseeable future". I think this lousy upgrade is equivalent to them saying, "Let them eat cake!".

I am already ordering my copies of 4.x to install in my Tivos. To heck with Directv.

Why Directv has felt it is better to gamble on a vapor system and not leverage the Tivo system that is already working and deployed is a mystery to me and may be a serious case of mis-management.

x.y.z

z standoffs are less than y.

but you clearly know more than me so-

Isn't the Tivoapp basically the same on any hardware (for any given release- say 3.1.x), just with different drivers for the specific hardware? Or is the tivoapp alot different in each flavor of box?

They are pretty much the same in each major s/w version (3.1, 4.0, etc.). I have swapped out tivoapps in different maintenance releases without problem.

TiVo has changed the number scheme from release to release. Even within a release they have changed the naming scheme. The Series 1 DirecTiVos went from 3.1.0c to 3.1.0c2 to fix aquiring the guide info bug while the Series 2 went from 3.1.1c to 3.1.1d. All the 3.1.x slices are the same since they are the exact same hardware. The only difference is the vendor name in some of the menus. In the case of the T-60 the menu backgrounds were different. The proms also make sure the correct slice is running on the correct hardware. You can not install the slice with the hughes name in the menu on a phillips for example.

Sorry guys, I asked this on another thread but it should have probably been asked here.

For anyone with 6.2 already, I have a couple of questions.

1. 30 second skip still works I hope?

2. Speed of re-arranging season pass priorities. I have about 50 season passes and wish lists, many for things that are hopefuls and not currently on the air. But this weekend I did some re-arranging because a couple of shows were missed and it took 45 minutes to re-arrange 4 programs in priority.

Just curious about these two. Thanks for any info.
