DC Meet: Super NOVA New Year Brunch Planning

To quote from the main thread:

Quote:
Sunday, January 1st
-Mid-morning @ Gainesville/Manassas: Go out for a casual breakfast/brunch (there is a Golden Coral, Cracker Barrel, Denny's, Old Country Buffet, and a local Brazilian steak place near-by that all do a pretty good brunch). Or if people are up for a short ride (45 minutes into the mountains), we could go to Four And Twenty Blackbirds (review). Their prices aren't bad but more than the other options- their dinners and brunches are to die for- the only downside being, IIRC, they don't take reservations for brunch and they may be closed that day.

So I thought I'd start this tread to break the planning for this out since we're getting a bit closer. I've got one person who said their interested in Four and Twenty so let me know if anyone else is, if a few people chime in, I'll give a call this week and see if they're open and if they'll let us make reservations and so on.

As long as I can grab a ride with someone, I'm in for brunch.

Four and Twenty looks VERY yummy, too!

I have no where else to be on a Sunday and a national holiday.

And... I'm almost a lock, since I'll be spending the night out that way.

/calls shotgun in newest car, unless more ride-providers are needed, in which case I'd be happy to drive. Assuming I'm going

I believe ISCA rules state you cannot call shot gun until the last passenger of the car has crossed of the threshold leaving the destination and the target vehicle is in sight.

Yes but there's a well know "whoknows55" rider to those rules.

Rules? These ISCA rules say anything about begging for a lift to brunch? Four and Twenty Blackbirds looks good. Count me in...

I'll be happy enough to make it to my late afternoon flight.

The International Shot-gun Calling Assocation only makes rules about how you decide who gets the front passenger seat. It says nothing about who gets a ride or how you get one...

Which reminds me. I need to call them and check on us getting reservations.

This is precisely why we will NEED brunch - gotta soak up all the hangover inducing elements with some protein, carbs and grease!

Well, I'll find out from Four and Twenty and post a poll soon. Near the hotel, there is a Cracker Barrel, Golden Coral, Bob Evans, Shoney's, and Old Country Buffet which do brunches. There is also Brazilian steak place near our house that does brunches and used to be quite good but we haven't been there in a while (a bit of a whole in the wall, but good).

So if Four and Twenty isn't an option and/or others want to do something different, there are a LOT of options. There aren't (to my knowledge at least) any of the more up-scale hotel-based brunches nearby like there are closer to DC.

This place and the acronyms. Cracks me up... I tried for some time to reason out that one - and just couldn't get it.

I'm with nyny - I'm gonna need to get up and have COFFEE! and maybe some grease on Sunday. I'm also gonna need COFFEE!! maybe with a little ESPRESSO on the side. So long as they serve coffee I'm game for any old brunch place. I'd like to say tho I'm not much on chain-y places. Just when I travel I want to try places that I don't have access to locally. Make sense? That being said, I'd pick the hole in the wall Brazilian place as a second choice... JMO.

I'm just along for the ride tho - and will gladly go where the group goes. This whole trip is first and foremost about being with the peeps!!

How many of these places do you think are actually open?

Im betting that the cheaper places, like Cracker Barrell are probably closed.

Really? Back in HS, when I worked at McD's, we were only closed for one day: Christmas. We did open later on New Year's Day (and close early certain other ones).

I'd wager many of these will be open too but with later starting times. I actually saw the manager of the Old Country Buffet about a month ago (they had a booth at the Manassas Chocolate Festival for some odd reason). She said so far as she knew, they'd be open on NYD for brunch... <shrug>

My experience is that everything is open on NYD - I would be we don't have a problem anywhere we want to go.
