Battlestar Galactica -- again.

I'm terrible about episode names; so, this may be the same round of re-runs as before; but -- I took a look ahead on UHD to Sunday, 1st January, and Battlestar Galactica is listed!

UHD is starting to show season 2 on 1/1/06. That episode is entitlied "Scattered", originally shown 7/15/05. Season 2 resumes on 1/6/06 with episode 2-11.

Wait, so Battlestar Galatica is in HD on UHD? I don't have to "suffer" through SD on SciFi? Thanks! I did not know that!

If you're willing to wait 6 months for it (new eps on SciFi air on UHD 6+ months later). And the quality is no better than the DVD's, which usually come out at least a month before they're on UHD.

Bottom line - UHD = Useless High Definition channel.

Seriously! While I enjoy BSG very much and will rewatch them in HD this channel is so useless! With the library Universal and NBC own you'd think it would be our best channel. Sad really.

Whether it is really HD doesn't really matter to me, as long as it is widescreen.

Definitely widescreen, but so are the DVD's. And with a good upconverting DVD player you'll actually get a better picture than from UHD. And no rain fade. You'll save enough in the HD package fee toi more than cover all the DVD's.

BG is filmed in HD. I know when I watched it in HD from UHD there was definitely a difference between the DVD and UHD with UHD having a much better picture and this is from DirecTV which is downconverted to 1280x1080i by DirecTv. It was on my old 1080i set, but it was professionally calibrated. I'm looking forward to see how it looks on my 1080P set.

I have a new 1080p set as well, so maybe it will look better than the DVD's (which I also just purchased). I know during the last UHD round, it looked about the same. I saved all the HD versions, then deleted them when I got the DVD's and they looked the same (on my 768p set).

BTW, I love my 1080p set... I thought I loved TV before, now I love it even more! But the last week or so has been painful - almost nothing new to watch... 1/6/06 is getting closer!

Congratulations! A friend and I saw some 1080p sets in a local store and they were sweet.

What 1080p signals can you feed to it?

Other than a PC, there aren't any 1080p signals out there. And even the mid-future only holds HD-DVD/BluRay as 1080p sources.

However, the 1080p TV's convert everything to 1080p once they get it. And there are lots of 1080i sources out there! Seeing the full resolution of a 1080i source (CSI:Miami still blows me away) is amazing.

The only difference between 1080i and 1080p is the effective refresh rate (30 vs. 60fps) and the deinterlacing (which used to be an issue, bobbing vs. weaving, but seems to be solved in this generation of sets).

In any case, the new 1080p sets (even the wobulated DLP's) look amazing. I look forward to 12/31 when they re-air the BG pilot (at least that's what the guide looks like).

This thread goes to show... that Sci-Fi needs to step up to the plate and get them selves SciFi-HD....

I would watch BSG in HD during the first runs, but now since I know their pattern... I will just table it and watch it 6 months later.....

(This goes for their other shows as well... SG and SGA...)

Thanks for the thread... now to setup the SP...

I have seen it on UHD and while I have seen many (many) better quality HD broadcasts, it is definitely better than DVDs.

SP setup.

I will also not watch SciFi anymore due to no HD. I'll wait till it comes to DVD or UHD in this case. I won't be watching the new episodes of Stargate.

Well, you won't get to see them on UHD or DVD if you don't support SciFi. It's not really SciFi's fault that there is no SciFi-HD. It's demand. You watch SciFi, you get to see great series, and perhaps in the future SciFi-HD. If you don't, say goodbye to BG, SG1, SGA...

Let's think clearly now...

Yeah, let's punish them for giving us three good-to-great sci-fi shows!

believe it or not, i watched season 2 on my ipod. i am away on a 3 month project and have a one hour commute each way by train. i have no tv where i am staying so i downloaded desperate housewives (1 and 2), commander in chief, and Battle Star and watch them on my commute. Normally I only download things like dramas where a watching on a little screen doesn't take too much away from the experience, but BS is so good I couldn't wait.

i hope i remember to set up the Season Pass on UHD to record the remainder of the episodes. can't wait to catch the ending of the Pegasus episode.

I'm sure your boycott will really make a big difference at SciFi channel headquarters.

SciFi headquarters memo:
Hoffer quit watching SciFi !!
We must do something about this !!
