I have a Toshiba SD-H400 and am wondering if any of the hacks will work on it. I tried the 45 day trial but found it was worth $299 to get an extra few days of guide and having it record a bunch of stuff I don't want to watch, so I stayed with Tivo Basic. Don't get me wrong, I like it a lot better than the VCR it replaced since the random access of disk is way better than tape, but I prefer to just use it as a glorified VCR.
I've heard it is possible to set up a web server inside the Tivo (or that it comes with the software when you are at 7.2, which I am) that allows it be accessed over the net. I really don't have any interested in attempting to watch or download the programs over the Internet, it would be far too slow. But it would be nice when I'm on the road to be able to set recordings. Sometimes I'll hear about a program or game I want to see, sure would be slick if I could get in and record it. If not with a web server, even command line would be fine, it isn't as if I'd be doing this very often. Its just that it would be nice to have since I don't have a wife at home to call and ask to do it for me!
Maybe none of this stuff will work on the Basic service, maybe it needs Tivo To Go to work, and if so I guess I'm out of luck. Can I at least hook it up via ethernet so I don't have to keep the phone line run over to it any longer?
