Good job, people.

Well I hope you're happy. All your negativity and complaining forced David to close the best thread in the whole Forum. If you had just given it a few days, maybe things would have smoothed out.

Why don't we just start a new forum somewhere else?

Thank you David. You were not wrong for responding to an attack, and I appreciate the consideration of the thread's length.

I am very happy, actually. The venting and the discourse forced clarity on the issue.

Our fears were that the mods wouldn't be willing to differentiate between "long" threads that have value to some (even if it's just a few!) people ... and "game" threads whose sole purpose is to continue creatively with wordplay and/or rhyming responses. These are very different threads and are the crux of the issue. Some folks are simply annoyed by the lot of 'em and wish they'd *all* be banished. The new forum seemed to realize that dream for them.

David's clarification on this shows to me that he "gets" it, and I appreciate his continued focus on the issue.

And just in case any of you have missed it, CatBurger kindly petitioned David and the Thinking thread was moved back into Happy Hour.

Major props (do you kids still say that?) to David for his open-mindedness. I'm sure it is tough to keep with all the responses he has been getting.

Wow - glad to read good news at the end of this.
Thank you David for taking the time to look further into the differences the many types of threads have to offer. It is much appreciated.

Why am I amazing? I just insulted everyone for complaining instead of being rational. Catburger is the real hero.

I'm pretty sure the venting was NOT why David gets it. Catburger's well thought response was why.

But the thread is back in HH, so I'll stop bitching about the bitching.

I have only read 4 threads about this so don't know (and I'm guessing I don't care to based on some stuff I read) exactly what's all going on. But, what I do know is that I think the owners of a forum can do what they want...period. On another forum I use this is the policy, as much as i dont like it, but hey it's their place. They can, and do take off posts that aren't even offensive by objective standards over there. It's because they don't like them. (the truth hurts). Buried in their TOS it says they can remove them for any reason. Now I've never read TOS here but I bet it's about the same. Assuming it is... for the priviledge of posting here free of charge, I think administrators or their representatives should be the king...whether I think it's fair or not or whether I agree with them or not. It's how I'd run a board.

I think young CatBurger has realized something that many people twice his age here haven't learned yet........ask for something kindly with a well written explanation and it will be heard (maybe it won't always get the result you want, but it will be heard).........throw a tantrum calling people names and making threats will fall on deaf ears.....or as my wife always says...."You get more with Honey than you do with Lemon"
