But if a predator were chasing after a non-"fainting" breed of goat, it would probably end up getting the slowest or weakest one anyway. From a natural-selection standpoint, that seems to makes more sense than this situation, where the predator gets the one that just happens to be predisposed to "fainting".

I'm sure there's a reason why they are doing it though.. must be of some benefit.

I've been planning to get a couple of fainting goats for weeks now.

Fainting Goats

Their purpose is to be the decoy and protect more valuable livestock. If a predator shows up the goats faint while your prize <insert farm animal here> runs.

Shameful. People who breed for this are perpetuating a genetic flaw. I doesn't hurt the animal? Perhaps not physically. But if this rush comes from being startled, and an animals natural instinct is to flee - but they can't - it must be emotionally very hard on them. It never ceases to amaze me what people find amusing.

Fainting Goats

Ever hear of them? A buddy sent me a link to a video on them. They kind of have a sort of nervous narcolepsy for some reason. For some reason, this clip cracks me up in a cruel sort of way.

What, the visual of the umbrella opening triggers it?

Damn, I'd buy me a herd, a brelly, and take 'em on the road!

I was sure hoping someone would come up with something better than the beer and goats question...

Fainting goats rule!!!

I have a friend who has two. She is real sensitive about people scaring them on purpose, but they are a riot!

(personally, i can't see why you would own them if you weren't going to throw a fire-cracker in the pen every once in a while)
