When I first purchased my TiVo off of eBay 3 years ago, it was supposedly new but it didn't work when I first recieved it so I sent it back to Phillips. They supposedly sent me a "NEW" unit but I'd always had slight problems with it, nothing major, seemed sorta slow at times. However, recently, it became more and more slow until it was skipping and stopping and watching LIVE TV became impossible. Finally the unit died and I had the dreaded GSOD displayed for a couple days so I decided to open it up and see what I could do to repair it...
NOW IS WHERE THIS STORY BECOMES INTERESTING....
When I opened the TiVo I immediately noticed the word "BAD" written in black permanent marker on one of the hard drives with a little evil smiley face next to it, e.i. >)
I couldn't believe this! Did Philips intentionally send me a faulty unit? Has anyone else ever noticed something like this inside of one of thier TiVos? I'm not even sure what course of action I could take at this point, considering the unit is 3 years old and by opening it I voided the warranty. But it really makes you wonder.... Any adivce would be appreciated.
Let me hear your thoughts people!
BTW - I have a Phillips HDR312, anybody have any ideas on how I can fix the hard drives rather than replacing them? (I'm short on cash) I'm also pretty sure I need a new drive image and I don't know where to get one. Thanks.
