Why do you always do that, Gray? You know I can't resist reading spoilers, and now you've ruined the show for me this week...

I liked the first 2-3 episodes of this program very much.

I hope this week is more exciting the last week. In fact I would give last weeks episode a big thumb down. Way too predictible and actually IMO pretty stupid.

Im hoping it can gain my interest back this week.

skittles, after getting beat to the punch last week i just waited my turn. but since i need my spoilers to get me through the day, here's what i dug up:

From USA Today:
Spoiler Alert! (highlight to read)

The problems continue to multiply on Lost (ABC, Wednesday, 8 ET/PT) as the castaways must decide how far they should go to persuade Sawyer (Josh Holloway) to turn over the medicine he has been hoarding. What responsibilities does an individual owe the group — and what can a group of plane-crash survivors do about it? Its willingness to pose such questions, and its ability to handle them, is what makes Lost such a great addition to the TV lineup.

And the ABC episode summary:
Spoiler Alert! (highlight to read)

"Confidence Man"
When Shannon suffers an asthma attack, Jack and Sayid realize brutality might be the only way to convince Sawyer to relinquish the life-saving medicine he's hoarding. Meanwhile, Sun struggles to decide if she'll obey husband Jin's orders to stay out of others' affairs, and Kate uncovers some shocking secrets about Sawyer.

Heres' another:

Spoiler Alert! (highlight to read)
This week Charlie will accuse Hurley of hoarding food - because Hurley never gets any skinnier. Sayid’s torture of Sawyer this week will involve fingernails and sharp objects. Source: Ain't It Cool News

I always have spoilers, but seems no one here really likes to read em, so I'm cautious.

Here's another:

Warning to West Wing fans: ABC's playing stupid timing tricks again - this time Lost is 1:02 long. This has got to be a deliberate attempt to screw over people who've set manual recordings to start the west wing 1 minute late.

Yes, the network executives and show's producers are deliberately out to screw over the .00001% of the population who have set up a soft-padded manual recording for the West Wing.

Just thought I'd give some alternate nicknames:

Matthew Fox ... Jack (Dr. Hero)
Evangeline Lilly ... Kate (Freckles; Strong Brunette)
Josh Holloway ... Sawyer (Redneck)
Terry O'Quinn ... John Locke (Orange Peel Man - although since that was just one small scene in the pilot, it hasn't really stuck)

And meow, I love the spoilers! Keep them coming.

New York Times has an article today about the creation and casting of "Lost." There don't appear to be any spoilers for episodes that haven't aired yet.

One interesting tidbit: The Korean actress who plays Kim originally auditioned for Kate's role. They liked the actress so much that they created the Kim role for her.

You'd have to think that Sayid's backstory will be next week, associated with his captivity.....by the french lady???

Loved this week's episode.

I liked Sawyer's story, liked the scene between Hurley and Charlie a lot too. Best was the continuity.

Mentioning Sawyer reading the book previously
Jack grabbing his hurt arm after punching Sawyer
Talking about Hurley's (lack of) weight loss

Sawyer's stabbed arm was GROSS... and I'm usually not squirming at all.

Oh, lastly - I did notice birds chirping during the scene with "the kiss". I remember a few weeks ago people were speculating about the apparent lack of birds.

Maybe the Sayid spoiler for next week happens in his backstory, and not on the island.

Sawyer exposed Sayid and Jack as the self righteous savages they are. Without a shred of evidence the guy is beaten twice, attacked in his sleep, tied up and tortured. It doesn't take long for the self righteous to decide they are good and those they don't know are evil.

Sayid, I kinda like the character, but am I really supposed to think he's tough because he was in the Republican Gaurd in Dessert Storm? Those guys surrendered and quit faster than we could process them.

Where's the punnishment? Sayid wanted Korean guy handcuffed to the plane for attacking Token, but apparently it's ok to jump to conclusions about who has what or who hit you and then kidnap, torture and stab a guy.

Wow. A very, very intense episode, despite some issues I had with the story. Lots of good character conflict, a few hints at budding relationships and power struggles, and Sawyer half naked (meow!).

It's interesting to see that we've only gone 8 episodes and the survivors are already degenerating into savages. I figured it'd happen closer to the end of the season, but at least they made it REALLY interesting. Sawyer's rousing out of sleep to Sayed's "Good Morning" was done very well.

My issue is with the whole asthma inhaler thing. The moment RichLifeguardKid went digging through Sawyer's bags, I knew he didn't have them. It would have been way too obvious. I spent 45 minutes knowing he didn't have them. And then, when the drama was at its peak, and everything was good.... he didn't have them. Oh boy.

The kiss between him and Kate, though... that was great. I expected her to hit him in the gut, but nope.. she kissed him. That said a lot about Kate. Between that kiss, and Sawyer's backstory, it feels like the nickname of HanSoloClone is an extremely appropriate description for the man. The scoundrel with a good heart, who's willing to toe the line, but only within his own moral code... and yet, no matter the situation, always looking out for number one.

I'm also firmly of the mind that, considering what Locke said about Sawyer possibly attacking Sayed, Sawyer did NOT attack Sayed. Whether it's Locke covering his own ass after attacking Sayed, or Locke manipulating conflict for his own benefit, remains to be seen. But something with that conversation is very, very wrong (more spoilers below)

Claire's alive? Great. Romance with Charlie? Meh. Predictable. But I'll forgive it, because the baby's gonna need a Daddy figure on the island, and Charlie's as good as any. But I loved Charlie's spat with Hurley. Jorge Garcia played that very well. In fact, you have to wonder if they're reading these message boards, with the dialogue that keeps popping up in the show.

After last week's clunker, I'm glad the pacing came back to something close to where it should be. Although I would have liked to see more of Sawyer's past, it was good that he didn't get the whole focus of the show.

Now, about that promo they showed for next week...

Spoiler Alert! (highlight to read)
Locke is beginning to remind me, more and more, of the shopkeeper from Needful Things. He seems to have something that everyone wants.. indeed, their greatest desire at a particular moment... and in return, he demands that a price be paid... a price that's extracted from a person's spirit, in one way or another. Notice he manipulates things very subtly on the island. Not like Jack, with "I"m your savior" monologues... but in a very silent, almost unnoticable (to the castaways) manner. He ingrains himself into all the castaways' lives, and makes sure they rely on him. He's building power.

So, of all the backstories we've seen (Charlie's, Jack's, Kate's, Sawyer's, Sun's, and Locke's)... we still see that consistent pattern of people running from a person/existence they abhored. Whether they escape or not seems to be the interesting part.

Oh, and I must say it, so pardon the cliche. Didn't like the music at the end. Pulled me out of the Lost mood too much. Although, considering the songs like that only come right before the credits, maybe that's not such a bad thing.

Sawyer wanted them to believe he had the medicine. He had it coming.

I liked this episode. I've liked the Sawyer character all along. Or at least the actor who plays him. Great backstory. Loved how he took the name of the man he hated and yet became.

The show is moving along nicely. When all the main character's backstories have been covered the show can focus more on the mystery of the island. That will be nice.

Zevida, why are you still here? I thought you hated this show.

I was amazed that while Jack and Sawyer were dancing back and forth on the beach (the first time, early in the episode, right as Kate walks up and asks what's going on), they were so preoccupied with the asthma medicine and being bad asses to each other, that they completely missed the sailboat out in the ocean. It was right behind Jack's left shoulder in the close-up shots. Oh well, rescue averted. Carry on discussing the merits of each person's back story...
