Invasion Iowa!

Tomorrow's the big day... We'll be announcing Invasion Iowa at TCA. Footage from the show will be screened for the first time. Spike TV should have a three minute trailer on www.spiketv.com soon after.

Hold onto your Shats.

Also, www.reesewernick.com is up and running, at least in an early form. Check it out. Thanks, everyone, for all the continued support,

Rhett

Love your site.

It would also seem fair for you to list "Living the Dream" amongst your creations. The Kiwis used so much of your Joe Schmo script, as well as the "look and feel" of the show, that Reese Wernick should get some recognition for that program.

I'm curious how we gentle, trusting Iowans are going to be portrayed.

I'm thinking it will be an oasis in an otherwise blighted winter ocean of dreck. Can't wait for it!

As a diehard Shatner fan (but not necessarily Star Trek), you can bet this one will have #1 priority on the season pass list!

Looking forward to it here! Shatner is great on Boston Legal and I can just imagine how funny he will be in this part.

Definate Season Pass material.

I'll also second the request for JS Season 2 on DVD. - C'mon Spike!

It's a new show on SpikeTV. muggum (as he is known here) is the producer, who also produced The Joe Schmo series. William Shatner and a group of actors fool a town in Iowa into thinking that they are making a movie (called Invasion Iowa) there. That's it in a nutshell I believe.

And if there's ANYTHING I can do, even extending to selling them on the streets or door to door or something, you know how to reach me.

Glad to hear "II" is coming!!

Here's the original thread on it...(where else but TCF do you get threads started by the show's producer):

http://www.tivocommunity.com/tivo-v...156#post2323156

Basically, William Shatner and a "movie crew" descends upon a small Iowa town to shoot a movie that, well, isn't actually real. I believe the town was chosen because it is the fictional birthplace of the definitely fictional Captain Kirk. (Though with Shatner, you never know for sure. )

After 9-ish days of "movie crew gone wild in small town Iowa" hijinks, Muggum and company revealed that they weren't shooting a movie, but rather a reality show on the "fake movie" and its effects on this unwitting town. As he's Spike's $100,000 man, he dropped a few bucks behind to support worthy causes in the town.

Some of the folks seemed a bit put off by it, but I'd assume they didn't know that they were in good hands. They'll find out, soon. I wrote a letter to the local newspaper about this, but they never printed it...

Muggum had already hinted in the now-still-active "Joe Schmo - Post-Show Discussion Thread" that they were working on trying to get a JS2 DVD out.

For the "Star Trek"/Shatner fans here who don't have the history, and wonder why we're so obsessive about it...

Our Man Muggum(tm) here turned me from a very casual TV watcher to a drooling fan with some of the most amazing TV I've watched, "Joe Schmo" and its sequel last summer, "Joe Schmo 2". You laugh. You cry. You do both. Trust me.

If you'd told me 2 years ago that I'd be SuperFanBoy over a pair of reality TV parody shows on a network known as Spike TV ("The First Network for Men", said almost with a belch), I'd have asked what you were smoking.

I'm a 40 year old guy with a life, and here I am, following each nugget that Muggum here leaves for us. Now, I have to go mark my calendar for "Invasion Iowa"...yet ANOTHER Reese Wernick TV show I will plan my life around!

How many TV hours can we expect from I:A? (Interesting that the abbreviation for the show title approximates the postal code for the state, isn't it? )

I was wondering that too, but I guess from muggum's original post that the show's premiere date will be released tomorrow along with our first teaser trailer.

I actually got to meet William Shatner last year during "Shatner Weekend" (open to members of his fan club). It was down in L.A. He even accidentally stepped on my foot at one point, but I decided not to sue because there's no way in h*ll I'd win a lawsuit against Denny Crane!

I want to be able to answer all the questions. I just have to wait until tomorrow evening so I don't spill anything before the critics hear it. So I'll be back tomorrow night. Till then, the prediction about the Shats was true,

How'd you know what I was drinking?

And I was running through some of the JS2 threads that are still available in here. (I was messing with my user options, and noticed the "Threads You've Started" at the bottom.)

And from August, 2004, this line from one of my fellow JS-obsessives, our very own TIVOSciolist:

Quote:
For Joe Schmo 3, SpikeTV should set out to fool a medium-sized city somewhere.

Or perhaps, a small town in Iowa!

An excellent article on the series from a Web site called "The Critic Doctor". I have no idea who this guy is or anything, but he apparently was there for at least some of the events, and is very, very supportive of the show and Rhett and Paul and company.

Minor spoilerage if you don't want to read the actual delivery of the reveal.

(Skip the paragraph that starts "I was in Riverside..." to skip the spoiler stuff, and rejoin after the picture of Mr. Shatner and a prop check. Almost everything else has been covered in the articles in the various Iowa newspapers.)

http://www.criticdoctor.com/invasioniowa/riverside.html

A quote from one of the actors:

"I spoke with Kirk Ward (who played Shatner's illegitimate son) and he decided to get involved with 'Invasion Iowa' because of Rhett Reese: 'I only knew Rhett. I trusted him because I watched the 'Joe Schmo' shows and he never made a fool out of people. I'm from a small town and I don't want to be a part of something that makes fun of people.'"

It also appears that the guy from the Iowa film board backed off a bit in his concerns after Rhett wrote him (and for that matter, so did I...I actually heard back!). This was apparently written in October...I'd have to check my E-Mail to see when the film board guy got back to me.
