Question Sky Three and ITV4 listings

Next week's Radio Times has the schedules for these new channels, when can we expect them to be added to our TiVos? I have some things I'd like to have setup in advance of the launches next week.

Those with ITV4 already in there EPG (NTL and Freeview) already have the listings.

Sky Three and other platform ITV4 will be added when the platform get it.

As of yesterday (Tuesday) both ITV and Sky were still saying that ITV4 will not be on Sky until 7th November - and both ITV and Telewest were still saying "no deal yet".

Is there a reason that they won't be added until they appear on the EPG, even if listings and channel numbers have been released to the press?

Until they appear in the EPG the numbers are still subject to change. Last minute number changes have happened before.

Also, people will get confused by the fact that TiVo listing and supporting a channel which does not exist.

Not really a problem with a shopping channel, but how many people with Sky would be confused by the fact they have full listings for ITV4 and the channel is not on their platform?

You can also end up with programmes recording incorrectly which people will complain about. They seems to be a lot of interesting classic tv on ITV4. Also the 28-day rule would go out the window for any programmes TiVo thinks it records.

Adding ITV4 to Sky early to TiVo will confuse most people - as most people are expecting it to appear on the day TiVo gets it - not a week later!

Imagine this one: You watched an adult channel last night and the next scheduled recording on TiVo is the football on ITV4 on Tuesday night (for your young son who is a Chelsea fan).

At 7pm TiVo switches to ITV4 to record the football, but it doesn't exist on Sky and so the stb will remain on the adult channel.

How many people would complain about that if it happens?

I'm not saying that's the reason - but I think its a good one.

Personally I'd rather have the channel appear earlier so I can set recordings in the future.

If the channel moves that is no big deal as TiVo can cope with that easily.

The guide data could have dummy programmes in the run-up with title "Channel off air" and programme description "This channel starts 1 Nov 2005 for Freeview viewers, and ... for Sky Digital viewers."

and Homechoice, and Telewest, and NTL (some regions) while NTL (other regions maybe) ... ?

It is unusual for the numbers to be announced so far in advance and often places report the wrong numbers and wrong dates.

With some platforms, the numbers are given to TiVo in advance on condition they are not revealed until launch day.

Start altering the rules and you will nearly always get them late.

Why on earth do channels want their numbers kept secret - surely it is in their interests for everyone to know what the number is!

My understanding is that most channels on Sky are not given the number until a couple of days before launch.

ITV4 is a different case as the channel it will be using was always allocated to ITV. Same with Sky Three already being allocated to Sky.

Adding Sky Three to a channel where another channel is already in place - will confuse people.

And has said before, it will be added when its in the Freeview EPG.

Setanta Sports should be available nationally, but currently has a problem (they've not said publically what it is).

People seem confused enough in other forums who don't even have TiVo.

As I said with last minute changes - the Sky number advertised on screen for ITV4 is not the number previously released by ITV or Sky.

It now seems that a replacement or share with Men & Motors will happen for ITV4 for both Sky and Telewest.

Sky Three is just a name change to Sky Travel, so I'd have thought the easiest thing to do would be to just populate Sky Travel's guide data with the new listings and change the name at TiVo's leisure.

Of course as far as TiVo is concerned the number is not crucial until the point it needs to tune in to it. You can create a channel and add listings to it using a placeholder number and alter it later - everything (like season passes and guide data) is keyed to the Channel object in the database, not the channel number.

No - Sky Three is a brand new channel.

On Telewest and NTL - Sky Travel continues as normal.

On Sky - Sky Travel continues as normal and you now have Sky Three as well.

On Freeview - Sky Travel is being replaced by Sky Three today.

If the Sky Three programmes were added to Sky Travel - all the other platforms would be wrong.

Sky Mix to Sky Two was a simple name change - and was done exactly how you said Travel should have been.

Didn't realise Sky Travel was continuing on the other platforms.

Fair enough there... but how are those of us with Freeview, meant to set recordings for the programs on Sky Three, if we're left with listings for Sky Travel?
Even if we checked the listings for Sky Three... (elsewhere) it would presumably mean setting manual recordings each time!

Sky Three listings are there on channel 11 (freeview) - just had to add the channel to my lineup. But as said previously, Sky Travel is also still there on channel 11 - presumably from what gary said, we should be removing that from our lineup?

There is nothing else to remove! Just Sky Travel.

Sky Three was added to TiVo on Monday morning. Sky Three will be removed on Tuesday morning.

Unless your TiVo has not performed its daily call!

Well, here's a strange one. I forced a daily call last night at around 7:45pm so that I could get the new channel logos assigned to the appropriate channel - but there was no Sky 3. I rebooted - still no Sky 3.

After an automatic dialup this morning at 12:40am - it appeared, so in my configuration Sky 3 appeared sometime on their servers late last night.

I love the consistency in callsign names... SKYONE SKYTWO SKY3... I guess SKYTHREE is too long to be an ident.

Those wanting to see ITV4 on Telewest/Sky tonight - the revised Men & Motors schedules are in today's download with the ITV4 programmes.

Like ITV2, ITVTHREE (same length as SKYTHREE would be) and ITV4.

It has now... funnily enough, just after I'd posted about not having the Sky 3 listings... I'd switched my computer off and then was checking everything before going to bed! My TiVo had done it's daily call, and had left a message about it.... that's when I realised

Just waiting for ITV4 now

I thought reading this thread might make things clear about what's happening with ITV4 but it's made things worse.

I was surprised today to notice that at 1:35am overnight my long-time wishlist for "LATE LETTERMAN", which hasn't caught a program for about 6 months now, finally managed to get one. Weirdly it was on sky channel 136 and the channel logo in the top right corner showed "ITV4 on MM" - most peculiar.

Does anyone know what the sky digital channel numbers for Sky 3 and ITV4 will be when all is eventually sorted out?

btw- anyone know if this is a permanent return for the letterman show ?

**edit: according to digiguide, Sky3 will be 108 and ITV4 will be 120

Sky 3 was added to TiVo on Monday on 108.

ITV4 will be added to TiVo (for Sky) on 120 next Monday (as requested by Sky/ITV) - but all ITV4 programmes were on Men & Motors as well on Tuesday - and live sport will be on Thursday and Saturday.

Also worth noting that ITV4 and ITV News Channel are now sharing transmission bandwith on Freeview, although they appear on different channels. This means ITVNC is now only on-air in the morning and afternoon, with ITV4 taking over from 6pm.

And TiVo is listing both correctly.
