New TivoWeb icon pack(s)

I'm not sure if anyone will be interested in this, but I thought I'd post it in the event that there are others out there as anal as I am...

I've made a new icon pack for TivoWebPlus. There are two versions, one with small icons and one with larger icons. Just download the appropriate attached file and unzip it to your tivoweb images folder, and you should be good to go.

If you find these useful, please let me know! Comments, suggestions, and criticisms are always welcome.

TheEndless

[edit]added inline preview image[/edit]
[edit]added large icons[/edit]
[edit]made the "O" in the TiVo suggestion icon more purple[/edit]

These are great! Do you mind if I include them in my Enhancement Script?

Don't mind at all. It's probably important to note, however, that due to IEs inability to display transparency in 24-bit PNGs, they may not look as nice in all browsers.

If you want to hold off a day or so before adding it to your script, I'm working on a full-size version of the icons too, so you can add it as an option. Sound worthwhile?

Yes it does. I may not release a new script for a few weeks, so take your time.

I've now added a larger version of the icons. See first post.

Looks great. There are other on-screen graphics that can be replaced as well. If you're anal, and have time/talent, perhaps we can re-skin the entire Tivo user interface.

The only others I noticed were the hackman icons, and it really didn't seem appropriate to touch them. Are those the ones you're talking about? Suggestions for what you'd like to see?

No, I'm talking about the ones you see on your tv screen...the actual user interface. One of my future projects is to start messing around with changing Tivo's built in graphics in the MFS database.

Ohhh... That scares the crap out of me
The TiVo seems to use a very specific palette (ie. 8-bit pngs) which doesn't lend itself to anything that will look decent. And I believe it was you who noted that the TiVo doesn't like it if you don't play by it's rules when it comes to graphics. Have you ever tried swapping out the overlay screen graphics? Is there an easy way to test it without hosing the unit?

What's the fun if you don't screw up a Tivo or two? I've hosed so many Tivos, it doesnt bother me anymore, and with the Zipper I'm never more than 15 minutes away from a fresh installation. I have removed background animations before, but never replaced them. I have a spare Tivo I'm willing to sacrifice for testing.

Perhaps I should rephrase...
The idea of having to tell my wife that "I've screwed up the TiVo again" scares the crap out of me

Actually, I have an old Series 1 that I just replaced with an HDTiVo, maybe I can monkey around with that. Could you PM me with info on how to swap out files in MFS or at least point me in the right direction?

Yes this has been done a while back. See the "flickering bar" link in my sig - the default UK selection bar twittered horribly due to interlacing and poor design of the graphics. A few other people changed other images along the way - the Live TV guide had a similar problem.

One person did design a whole "skin" I believe.

HTH

That would be awesome. The stock images look like dog crap on a high-def TV.

Thanks for all you do.

You're more than welcome to use them. If you do decide to use them and you feel so inclined, I would mind a credit somewhere in the readme or elsewhere in the app.

Great looking icons! Make TWP that much nicer to use. Thanks.

Now I'm wondering what JediKnight2 has up his sleeves...

I have mixed and matched I have the small recycle bin icon and large everything else. Also removed my hard-coded width/height 18 on the deleted page - a quick bodge that lasted 3 years!

One thing though, surely the "o" in TiVo should be purple. It's on the Suggestion icon. Your "o" is blue?
