Keeping Track Of Your DVD Collection

I have got quite a few DVD's and thus have been looking at options to keep track of them.

For the last few years I have used HandBase on my Sony Palm device.

However, the Sony Palm is getting a bit long in the tooth.

I noted in an American's posting on this site a link to his on-line collection.

This software looked interesting and thus downloaded a copy, bought a bar code gun and have fed in most of my collection http://www.intervocative.com/dvdcollection.aspx/Automan

My question is does anyone have any other suggestions to order ones collection?

This software is okay but slow download speeds and all details are uploaded by fellow users.

Also I have found for recent releases e.g. Sliders - Season 3, El Cid no entries exist.

This software does yield a great deal of detail - perhaps too much.

P.S. Free version with minimal adds can be downloaded at http://www.intervocative.com/Downloads.aspx but if you have a large collection a bar code gun will help

This probably won't help you but may help Apple Mac users.

I think this software uses a different method. It uses the Bar code just the same BUT I think it then gets its details from AMAZON including very good covers. It also does Book, & CD's, the only ones it hasn't found for me yet is of course my Pre-Barcode collection. I will have to do those the hard way by searching by Title ( boring ).

Automan,

DvD Profiler is definately the best method. There is also an excellent program for Pocket PC users called 'Bevel Pocket Movie List' that allows you to create an XML export directly from DvD Profiler's Menus, which is then encoded for use on a PPC. I am not an expert & I got it to work v. easily. It's invaluable when you have a large collection and are out shopping and come across a DvD of which you are not sur whether you have or not. The interface is very similar to the full PC version. The web address is as follows, although that seems to be down at the mo (for good?)

If you have any trouble I possibly find the files and send them to you. The info is also on Intervocatives forum although it is quite hard to find. Ignore there own mythical PPC program. It's been in development for years and still no show the last time I looked.

My DvD's:- **censored**

Apparently I cannot post URL's!! Sorry

I use CATVids from FNProgramvare.

There is a third-party add-on called FNProg2PDA which will allow you to export your CATVids databases to your Palm with HandiBase.

The software allows you to download movie and TV program information from the Internet Movie Database.

There is a lively user forum and the programmer is very responsive about fixing bugs and answering questions (assuming the users don't answer the questions first).

I use it, as well as the author's other software (BookCAT for books, CATraxx for music, and SoftCAT for software -- my stamp collection is not extensive enough to use StampCAT). If you get more than one program, the bundled price is cheaper.

You can download a free trial which is fully functional, but limited (I see he now limits the free trial to 30 days -- it used to be limited by the number of entries you could make.) Take a look at the website -- Fredrik provides screenshots so you can see what the programs look like -- and give the free download a try.

Hope this helps.

Jan
