"Over There" cancelled

FX announced today "Over There" will not be back. This show was not perfect, but I enjoyed it, bad move IMO, but FX has so many quality projects I will forgive them this time.

That's too bad. The show was uneven, but when it was good, it was great. I can't fathom why this can get cancelled, but crap like "It's Sunny in Philladelphia" stays on the air. That makes no sense.

It's probably quite a bit cheaper to produce a 30-minute show that basically has 2 or 3 sets and 4 cast members plus guests versus a show that's always on the move with a large ensemble cast and the need for various effects like explosions/gunfire in addition to numerous regular sets and vehicles.

The latter has to pull in much higher ratings to warrant the expense, whereas the former can attract a much smaller audience and still produce a profit for the network.

I don't blame FX at all. They gave the show a full season and it just didn't perform. They have great shows that do really well on that network. Why would they want to keep this dead weight around?

I really wasn't expecting more than 1 or 2 seasons out of this. Sometimes it's tough w/ the content too.

Glad they filled out 1 season at least though.

I'm not upset but it was a show I liked and I wish had stuck around. Yeah it probably had a limited amount of story potential and probably cost way more than FX could really throw down but it was to me still a very good show well worth watching.

I think if HBO picked this up (of course doubtful since they've probably got a ton of money in Rome) this show could really spread it's wings. I mean even as is, this seemed more of an HBO show than an FX show.

I agree about being glad they filled out the end of the season instead of cancelling it and than doing a DVD. Although I might pick this up on DVD.

I liked it. It was somewhat hard to follow at times, but I though it put a very human face to what is going on "over there".

To bad, but at least they still have Nip/Tuck and at least one more season of The Shield.

But I'm still mad that they cancelled Son of the Beach

Don't forget Rescue Me. I liked this show too. Wish it would have stuck around. We can only have so many cop shows.

Loved Son of the Beach.

It's too bad, I really enjoyed the show and still have about the last 4 eps to be watched. It's kinda weird, the movie Jughead looks practically like Over There, but with bigger named actors. I kinda want to see it, but it seems like the same thing

Oh, well. I don't usually watch FX, but enjoy Sunny and OT. Both different outcomes. I hope FX keeps trying to do the edgy show thing and doesn't tone it down.

Jarhead, according to Entertainment Weekly, has no battle scenes.

As someone who has read the book, I'm not sure if it is going to translate to the screen very well. However, Sam Mendes is good, so I'll give it a shot.

On DVD.

This really sucks that OT won't be back for season 2. It was the best of the 3 new shows F/X tried this year...

Well, I think there are scenes of the oil fires in Kuwait and stuff, but no real shoot-outs or anything.

They could perhaps be blamed for not promoting the show. They promoted the heck out of before the pilot aired. But once that first episode aired, it was if all promotion stopped and the show was abandoned.

Sad to see it go. FX has a way of getting you into a show, then pulling the plug. I was also sad to see "Starved" get the ax.

...also still waiting for the 3rd mini-season of "Significant Others." What's with these shows that come on for 5 or 6 episodes, once a year?

I liked the show, well, except for some parts that I FF through (any scene with the guy that lost his leg, for example). Otoh, I just canceled my rome season pass last week.

Yeah, I'm waiting for some more Significant Others as well. With so many solid shows out there I actually don't mind some shows having very limited runs. I keep hoping to come across a DVD release of at least one season of Significant Others, sort of like the 1-disc The Office season 1.

Why would someone watch the scripted "Over There" when you can watch the real thing in "Off to War"?

I assumed "wish it could have stuck around" meant cancelled, maybe fmowry meant The Job.

Thank god it's coming back.
