Does such a thing as a Ethernet Video Sender exist?

I've got a plasma in a room that's a bit of a way from my TIVO and I'm using wireless video senders to get the picture to it (running a long scart lead or any other kind of cable isn't really an option).

However the picture quality isn't great and I seem to suffer from a lot of interference no matter what channels I try.

I do have some 85Mbs Homeplug mains-over-ethernet units and they work fine so I thought that what I really need is a video-over-ethernet sender/reciever pair however I can't seem to find anything apart from multi thousand pound commercial hotel type systems.

Anyone got any pointers to video over ethernet sender/receivers?

Ta.

This is video over CAT5 cable, not video over ethernet. You just need a run of CAT5 cable between the 2 points, and it has to be dedicated to sending the video.

Not a wireless solution, but I imagine that pulling a CAT5 cable would be simpler than a long SCART.

I'd have to do the math, but isn't the bandwidth of wireless ethernet going to be too low for quality video?

Quality is said to be extremely good, but I don't have direct experience myself.

You can use an Xbox running XBMC (see my sig).

I run mine over Cat5 - but there's no reason it won't work using WiFi.

Sony do Location Free TV, which allows you to MPEG4 compress a video source and then stream it to a PC, PSP or Sony LCD flat-screen Location Free TV receiver.

Slingbox offer something similar - but only to PCs.

Neither are perfect quality - but they are the only simple video over IP solutions that I know of. (Where compressed SD video is carried via Ethernet networks, WiFi etc.)

Both offer IR sending capabilities - so you can remotely control devices. The Sony gear is currently NTSC only I believe - the Slingbox team are beta-ing PAL support, and their current firmware apparently will cope with a PAL composite input (though the tuner is NTSC-M only) - and has some UK devices in the IR database (US Tivo remote commands drive Thomson Tivos - though don't have the AUX and VCR buttons I believe)

It is possible to send analogue video along Cat 5 cabling - however this can't be the same cable that is carrying an Ethernet network - it would have to be an extra cable run I believe. (Good for areas with saturated Cat 5 cabling, not so good for homes that just have a single Ethernet cabled network)

Something to digitise video, stream the data over ethernet and decode and display it at the other end? Easy - two TiVos!
