SOAK: Printing a PDF file

I have a PDF file that I want to print, but the print option is grayed out so I cannot do so.

I assume the file is for some reason protected from being printed to hard copy.

Are there any PC utilities out there that can be used to "strip" the anti-printing protection from the file?

FWIW, its a school calendar that I'd like to print out instead of always pulling it up online. I have no idea why it was set up this way -- I assume it was an accident.

Thanks!

If you can see it all at once, do a screen capture and print that

Yes, there is the option to create a PDF with the print function disabled...

I have several of them from professional organizations that want to protect their documents from duplication (at least hard copy duplication)...

I'm confused; is this if I have Adobe Acrobat (and not just reader)?

It's entirely possible to protect a PDF from edits or printing. It's just part of the saved file...

Your best bet is a screen grab and print.

use xpdf or ghostscript and print it. Those work, I think.

Did you try a different program? I use Foxit (http://www.foxitsoftware.com/pdf/rd_intro.php).

Thanks for the couple suggestions...

I'll try those out, if nothing else I guess a screen grab will work (but not be too pretty)

I'll let you know my luck soon.

Well...Foxit did not work and I'm not sure I have the attention span to figure out how xpdf or ghostscript work right now...

I'll try screen grabs.

Sometimes I'll get PDF's with security restrictions, but the author forgot to set a password, so if you have the full version of Acrobat (not the free reader) you can simply go in and turn off the restrictions. It's in the file menu / document properties.
