Since it's getting dark early now some of you may have time to go by the National Christamas tree and Menorah behind the White House. You can walk around and see all 56 trees.

Can we put him as a tree topper on the National Christmas Tree?

I'm not bound by any schedule except to give people a reasonable amount of time to rest and prepare for the party later on.

And also to rest (in the a.m.) and repair from the party the night before. However, I'm in for the Turtle Tour, even if it means getting up at an ungodly hour.

Hysterical!!

Sounds good all. I figure I'll have the phone list and I'll contact the Turtle Tour to find out where you are and cab it to your destination (or the next one) and jump in.

Can't wait!!

I'm up for anything on Saturday...hangover permitting, of course.

Mark has never been to DC so a Turtle tour may be in order.

The last time I went on a Turtle tour I think that I saw more of the Washington Metro then anything else. If nothing else it should be much cooler this time. So I'll give TB tours another shot since at the moment I have nothing else to do on Saturday

If you guys "Turtletouring" are going to take multiple cars, we have some FRS radios you can borrow. That way you can stay in touch and Turtleboy can give tour details easily without using a lot of cell minutes.

Wow, this is becoming a production. Cool.

I have free weekend minutes (and still a DC 202 cell phone number) so I'm not concerned about that, but that does sound like a cool idea Merc.

Also, I guess we will need multiple cars.

Well, the nice thing about FRS is everyone in the other car(s) can hear what you're saying so if you need to give directions due to a tricky turn in the city or you want to talk about the buildings/sites you're driving past, they can all hear. Plus peole can chat back and forth and ask questions. It's like riding in one big car together. We doe that a lot when we do road trips with friends or family and can't take one car. We have three radios and they should be compatible with any FRS if you need more than three cars and need to borrow extras.

Think abou it. They can be fun.

Oh, I'll take them. Sounds great. Thanks.

I hope other people will have cars though. Not sure how many I can fit in my rent a car.

Ok, to be perfectly honest, I've done little (no) planning on this. I still want to do it though.

But I have no idea who is going, and I'm not sure what to do now.

How has the weather been up there?

Hmm... Any suggstions from locals on how to coordinate this? Should we meet somewhere, metro in? If it's just a few people in my car I can drive them around, but with more people, I don't know.

Turtle -

Can I suggest we drive someplace near the outdoor monuments - like the Lincoln Memorial,
Washington Monument, Vietnam Memorial, Reflecting pools, etc. My recollection is that you can see a lot on foot by circling around that area. And isn't the Smithsonian nearby? I haven't been to DC in several years, so I could be wrong. Also, unless it is sub-zero temps, I don't mind walking around outside. Anyone else?

Actually, that's exactly what I was thinking though. I'm just trying to get an idea of how many people are going.

Merc's is far from DC. I don't mind driving at all, (in fact, I enjoy it). I already told you and Joules that I would take the two of you, and I probably have room for 1 or 2 more people.

So who else is going? Who needs a ride?

Won't most of the Turtle Tourers be staying at the hotel? I would make that the starting point. I would guess there will be enough cars to accomodate everyone interested in the DC trek - we should get a "car count" for those who are interested in driving from the hotel. If it is too far out of the way for the locals who are joining us, perhaps they can meet us either en route or at a designated parking location in the city?
Also, we should have a definate departure time that will give us all a chance to get back to the hotel to prepare for the evening festivities (and maybe rest a bit?). Just a suggestion...
Anyone else have any ideas?

As long as there are enough cars, we're cool. I think meeting at the Lincoln Memorial and walking towards the Smithsonian is the best way to go. I don't think it will be that cold either

Parking might be an issue, but we'll figure that out too.

From the Weather Channel site:

Saturday: Showers possible. Highs in the mid 50s and lows in the upper 30s.

So the cold shouldn't be an issue, but the rain might. If it does rain, we can always just spend more time inside the museum.

I'm not sure at this point what we'll want to do-other than our aforementioned trip to Ford's Theatre. But we have a car, so I hope it wouldn't be too much to tag along if we so decide.

Maybe we need to start posting a headcount in the OP for the number of people interested in a Turtle Tour of DC and the number of people interested in visiting the Udvar-Hazy Center (a.k.a. the Air & Space Museum Annex). Then we can work out how many cars are needed.

I'm assuming Maui and I are still on for Ford's Theatre on Saturday at some point(depending on when it's open-I'm not remembering.) Others are welcome to come!

I have a car and can drive out from the hotel if needed. Someone's just gotta tell me where to go.

(Stop that! Don't line up all at once!)

This could also facilitate me breaking off to pick up Steve.
