GDN,

Only problem I see is wind loading. If you have signal fades during any wind that big wing will be the reason.

Your OTA antenna is similar to the TV antenna on my motor home. It looks like a Winegard. Does your antenna have a pre-amp?

I hope you don't have any wind problems. ~Bill

Havent had a chance to call Directv yet but have been with them @ 4.5 years, is that long enough to warrant the $99 deal to anyones knowledge?

Also is there a list of the cities the receiver will be OTA compatable with? I live in Washington DC and wonder if I can skip the purchasing of the antenna alltogether. Cost isnt so much the issue as I just want the installer to come over and install the 3rd prong, the box, the antenna, everything all at once without excess guff about flat RG6s or anything else.

I think 2 yrs continuous service is the key

I think that 2 years continuous service and at least a 29.95 channel subscription is all DTV is looking for to give u the $99 deal. I get mine installed saturday. The equipment was shipped to my dads, physical address, so I have to go there and get it before the installer shows up at my house to install. I told the csr that I had moved and must have changed just the billing address when i did it online. He said he would fix it but i checked online yesterday and i still having billing and service address seperate. He assured me that he would make a note for the installer to come to my billing address and not service address.
Good luck

Curious to know what make and model directv has been sending out for this $99 deal for High Def? Can someone who has received this deal tell me what kind of equipment they have received?

Got the Samsung and the Winegard mentioned here. Also, went from 1 (dual) LNB to 3 on the new dish.

I got the Hughes HTL-HD receiver today and they shipped the Wistron Neweb dish also! It is strange to see how DTV operates differently in different areas. Almost everyone told me that they would not ship the dish but they did.

Just Got the Deal as well

I called and just got the $99deal as well. They are installing next week equipment is being shipped to the house. Receiver will either be Samsung or Hughes, I also will be getting a multiswitch as well, the first CSR did not know about the 99 deal had to get a retentions CSR on the phone, he took care of me within 5 minutes. My whole phone call lasted about 10 min.

I just got it to work! I must have plugged something in wrong. Once I finalized my -rw dvd it worked on a Philips dvd player as well. What speed are you recording on?

Cool

Just called and the csr said no problem on this deal.
She said that the minumum monthly service you needed to carry was 45 a month?
OTA antenna was provided at an additional $50 (LA area)
New dish, switch, ota install, and wire runs included

Tried for the extra hbo and showtime, no luck

1 year total choice required and 1 year hd package (11 months $10.99)
Tried to get out of a year on the hd but she would not budge. No biggie I wanted it anyway.

No choice on equip, Have no idea what it will be. Install in 5 days.

called this #800-600-8977 and got the hd contract for a year removed, they said they couldnt see anything that required it. Nice to know in case you switch.

I just got the $99 deal as well. He told me it included the over the air antenna as well. (St. Louis area)

They will move my DVR to another tv and put the HDTV receiver where my DVR receiver is(only HDTV I have).

I did have to subscribe to the HDTV channels for $10.99 a month for one year.

I got the HD Receiver and Antenna installed by DirecTV and WOW! They installed a 4ft. Sensor by Windgate OTA Antenna that receives all digital locals (Scottsdale, AZ), a triple LNB Dish, 5x8 Multiswitch, and the Samsung TS160 HD Reciever.

Ironwood Communications did the install (Terry was my installer) and I can say nothing but great things about his work!

Now I have to deal with LIVE TV for a few months but the HD makes it worth it!

Brian

Now with HD!

Get the $99 deal and have them run 2 or 3 lines to the room you want tivo in. Then buy a $99 tivo and hook both up to that tv. For $200 you have HD and tivo.

That's what I was thinking. In fact, I think I'll get the Philips 80GB DTivo. But, BestBuy's website says the DTivo units are for "new customer deals" only. Is that just for show?

I received v 1.07 with the signal meter when you hit the pause key. Although this only seems to work on OTA not Sat channels.

There's a menu item to check the satellite signal strangths. And, mine had 1.06 that I got in December which has an Oct 2003 manufactured date.

Arrow Can't get $99 deal

I've called DTV four times over the past 5 days and each time have been told there is no $99 HD deal for existing customers. They try to steer me to the $399 HD deal. Someone earlier mentioned that this might be available only in certain cities. Does anyone have any insight on this? I live in Columbus Ohio area.

I'm a new Tivo user this month. About to have my 3rd RCA DVR40 unit installed. Previously used Utlimate TV, but decided to eliminate $10 UTV fee and start paving way for HD Tivo.

It's a ridiculous dance, but you really need to get to Customer Retention ("CRG" in DirecTv-speak). You can probably get to that department without threatening to cancel, but do that if you must. It won't hurt anything. You'll start with the regular customer service people, and while some of them have heard of the deal, most haven't, or say they haven't, and either way they'll tell you that you have to go to Retention to work it out.

Thanks, RH. I went to Magnolia today and got the last one!

As for the HD deal, I called the number listed on pg. 2 of this thread yesterday - got the Retention CSR right off the bat and she offered me the $99 deal right away. Got the OTA ant as well...all for $99.

Once again, you have to have been a D* subscriber for 2 years, in good standing, with more than $40 service per month to qualify.

I'll be watchin' the Super Bowl in HD this year!

Credit

Everyone is getting credit on their DirecTV account --- no one is getting money credited it back to their credit card.
