Live TV consistently tuned to informercials

I rarely see Live TV (because I use the Tivo/Tivo button trick before turning on the TV power) but when I do the TiVo is tuned to a local station that plays infomercials.

I never tune to that station, don't tape anything that is shown on that station, the show being tuned now (ie "Paid Programming") already has three thumbs down, and the channel is marked by me as a channel I don't even receive.

Does this seem a little odd to anyone? Is TiVo and/or DTV getting a kickback to default live tv to infomercials?

I'm generally not paranoid, but I do have a buddy that says "when you don't understand the situation follow the money". Any tinfoil hats out there want to back me up on this?

I'd make sure its removed from Channels I Receive list. If its not a local channel, DTV may me dropping and readding the channel which makes it reappear in the Channels I Receive list.

If you hadn't said that it is on a local channel, I'd say it was left on the Discovery Channel after it was used for recording special content on your DVR. Please report exactly what channel this is.

BTW, TiVos don't "tape" anything.

Right, I know about the nighttime TDC tapings.

The channel is 52 in Dallas. It is deselected in my "channels I receive" listing, as noted above. I wonder if TDC still tries to tape if the channel is marked as "not received".

I admit it is inaccurate, perhaps a flavor of anachronism.

I also say "cellphone" even though I'm no longer using a cellular phone, technically speaking.

It's truly removed. I had removed it after the 6.2 upgrade lost those settings, and it has not come back on since.

Do you have suggestions turned on. It could be recording a suggestion or wishlist and you are just seeing it after it done it's recording.

Do you mean to imply that TiVo will auto-record suggestions, even from channels you don't receive? Seems almost as unlikely as the idea that the OP's TiVo is programmed to seek infomercials .

My suggestions are turned on, but there are no shows in there that were taped off that channel.

Seems like a pretty decent idea to me.

In the absence of any user input, why not tune to a network that would underwrite your service? Shoot, TiVo is so bad at guessing what I'd like that I'd prefer to see TiVo sell Suggestion slots to help prop up the company. Like a Showcase that autorecorded to fill Suggestions space.

I agree that a Suggestion recording could leave the tuner tuned to an odd station. Two bits of data suggest otherwise in this case:

* there are no suggestions recorded from that channel currently in the suggestion list.
* the channel is turned off in my "channels I receive" list.

If nobody else is seeing the infomercial behaviour I'll just chalk it up to coincidence and weirdness.
