The Official Hotami Hotel (and only Hotel) Thread

I will update this thread as we get concrete information.

The new official hotel is... /drumroll....

Fairfield Inn

It's 159 a night and with taxes it goes to 179 a night, but it has free bfreakfast, free internet (which you're a dork if you sign onto IMHO...), and parking is only 15 a night I think.

The AAA rate is $134

For reference, my address is 7917 SW 104th Street, Miami, 33135

Hmmmm.... that looks like it could work. Closer to FLL. I was actually thinking of flying there instead of MIA, as every one tells me to avoid MIA at all costs.

Its also cheaper to fly to FLL then MIA, the big problem I hear about MIA is they don't have adequate space for security so the lines to get through can be quite long.

I haven't priced it out or checked flight schedules yet, but if FLL flights are as convenient, I'll go there. I did make trip THROUGH MIA, but that wasn't a huge problem since I was connecting onto FPO. No need to deal with any security there.

MIA is not that bad. Compared to the actual Miami Metrozoo, it is not much worse (although the animals at the real zoo are much better behaved). At least when it is not crowded, say midnight to 4 AM. Any other time, I try to avoid it.

That hotel is equidistant from MIA and FLL. -- About 15 miles each way.

It will be a bit more of a shlep to me, but maybe we'll end up at casa eddyj anyway.

I think that that hotel would be good. It's not "South Beach" as someone said, but it's still MIami Beach, and if you want to go clubbing in South Beach, it's a very short cab ride away (it's not like you would be driving to the clubs anyway).

Since I have been banned from the office I can call tomorrow...any idea on how many people will need rooms and when people are planning to check out (Sun or Mon)?

Seems like a good compromise, especially since we are not sure (and may not know until late) where the party will end up. This is 20 miles (about 40 minutes) from my house, according to Google maps.

You can count Indy & me for one room, checking out on Sunday.

I'd say we are going to have 20-30 people total (optimistically). Indy thinks more, but we'll see.

If people are insistent on staying at the beach (and I don't blame them. If I was coming from out of town to Miami I'd insisit on staying on the beach too), I just want to reitereate that people are going to have to have cars. Miami, like Socal doesn't have the best public transportation, and things are spread far out.

Besides, that, that hotel looks pretty damn good.

I'll need a room for me.

And I see they have a spa. This could be fun.

A co-worker has been to two conferences at this hotel and says that there is beach access for hotel guests.

I'd be perfectly content to sit at the beach all day on Saturday.

I checked AA.com, and for non-stop flights, FLL is cheaper than MIA. And the schedules work out just fine. I could get to MIA for less, but I would connect in Houston. (Houston!?? Ewww...), and I avoid connecting unless it's the only option.

And they have the new Sweet Sleeper beds. ( think Westin Bed light). Very nice. Great pool and on the beach. Sounds good to me.

OK Peeps: here are some more hotels... the prices may not be completely accurate but I included the links...

The Best Western Beach Resort:
4333 Collins Ave
http://book.bestwestern.com/bestwes...pertyCode=10265
$119-134

The Best Western OceanFront Resort (this one is in Bal Harbour)
9365 Collins Ave
http://book.bestwestern.com/bestwes...pertyCode=10299
$169
(these are all suites which could be really nice)

Fairfield Inn and Suites Miami Beach on the Ocean
4101 Collins
http://marriott.com/property/proper...arshaCode=MIAFB
$129
This one has free high speed internet and I believe it is the furthest south

AND FYI--the Best Western South Beach is not actually ON the beach-- its decieving

I had some others but they are way too expensive

I checked around, and that area around Bal Harbor is very nice, has nice shopping, restaurants, etc. I don't know it personally, but that is what my apies tell me.

I would highly recommend everyone settle on one hotel. It will make it easier to get people around, since as TB said, you will need cars to get to all the activities, except going to the beach. But even for that, being in the same hotel will be a big plus.

I agree we should try to stay at "one" hotel, not many spread out. The cheaper the better, but this is the Miami surrounding area we are talking about...

I just spoke with someone at the Sheraton Bal Harbour Beach Resort. The group rate would be $119 per night + 11% taxes. Parking is $23 a night, valet only. Breakfast is not included, but they have a lagoon style pool and beach access. Through expedia the hotel is offering a rate of $99 a night.

I don't know how many rooms would be needed, but if this is the route the group wanted to take and a contract is signed, we would only responsible for filling 80% of the room block without being penalized. (80% is determined based on room nights; i.e. if we reserved 20 rooms for two nights that would be 40 room nights. At an occupancy rate of 80% we must book 32 room nights. So, people could stay 1, 2, or 3 nights and have it count towards the 32.)

If a contract is signed we would need to pay a deposit equivalent to one night per room (the $119 x the # of rooms we need. Hypothetically, a deposit for 20 rooms would be $2,380). Feel free to let me know if there are questions, but I would think it is better to just book through expedia if the group wants to stay here.
