Serenity Shindig Master Thread - Information, Itinerary, Attendance, T-Shirts

This is a quick thread organizing all the Serenity Meet information. The original Serenity thread, though great for discussing planning, has grown massive and a little difficult to keep information together. So I'm gonna make this the "Master" thread and get it stickied. I'm including links to all the Serenity threads, the full itinerary, shirt information, and so on. This also makes it easier whenever I have to update information, since I can do it in a central spot.

Please read carefully.

Dates and itinerary

The Serenity meet is running from Friday, September 30th through Sunday, October 2nd. Some folks will be coming in on Thursday the 29th to enjoy Buffalo Burgers, but the official event weekend begins on the 30th. Here's the full itinerary

Thursday, September 29th

11:30am - Buffalo Burgers at Ye Olde Butcher Shop in Plano

Friday, September 30th

6:30pm -Mini Golf and games at Adventure Landing in Richardson
8:45pm - Dinner gathering at Greek Isles in Plano. You can read the menu here

Saturday, October 1st

11:00am until 12:45pm - Brisket Tacos at Mia's in Dallas
3:00pm - Serenity, the movie, at the Cinemark Legacy in Plano (ticket info forthcoming)
8:00pm until ?? - The Big Damn Serenity Shindig and Potluck Dinner in Richardson

Sunday, October 2nd

10:00am - Brunch at Kathleen's Art Cafe
Noonish until ??? - Fun, games, air hockey, cheap beer and excitement at Gameworks in the Grapevine Mills mall.

Hotel information

Our official hotel for this meet is The Richardson Hotel. The Richardson Hotel is a four star hotel and should be pretty comfortable. All rooms have high speed internet.

You can get cheap rates one of two ways.

- You can go to Hotels.com and do a search on rooms located in Richardson, TX. The Hotels.com rate is $80 per night.

- You can find another TCF person and ask them to play the role of an extended family member to take advantage of the Family Escape plan. This allows you to book two rooms at the cost of $109 per night, bringing the cost down to $55 per night.

Transportation - Getting to Texas, and getting around

Most out-of-towners will need to fly into Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW), as our other airport (Love Field, DAL) does not offer service outside of a small range.

DFW offers service to almost every major airport in the country with, at most, a single stopover. DFW Airport is also the primary hub for American Airlines, so they will often have some of the cheapest airfares for DFW. However, it doesn't hurt to look around on Travelocity or Expedia.

Thanks to the kindness and generosity of so many of the local TCFers in Dallas, it should NOT be necessary for anyone to rent a car. We have people who can make a few airport runs, and also offer transportation to the various events.

If you do wish to rent a car, you are more than welcome to. However, we're throwing this out there as a way to help the out-of-towner crowd keep their costs low.

Official T-Shirts

Courtesy of Tenacious Lee's hard work and dedication to Serenity/Firefly, we have an official T-Shirt that's been designed for our meet.

You can find the shirts on CafePress, at Jayne Does Dallas. The shirts have an awesome "Hands of Blue" reference on the front, and say "Serenity Shindig - Dallas" on the back.

All shirts cost $18, with a couple of dollars from each shirt going to help with costs for the Potluck Dinner. Shirts are available in many sizes, with some of the shirt styles ranging from S to 4XL.

Please make sure you wear these to the theater on Saturday. Show your spirit!

Instead of "Sticky:" shouldn't this thread be labeled "Shiny:"?

I don't believe I'm a mystery guest either...

Isn't the "mystery guest" thing kinda played out? *shrug* I'm just sayin'...

If you're gonna be "mystery", just show up... *shrug* that's what I did anyway...

I guess it depends on your reason for being a mystery guest. In DC I was a mystery guest because a wanted to surprise only 2 or 3 people. I figured it made little difference to anyone else.

The reason I was a mystery guest and did not just show up was courtesy to those that were organizing the events. Headcount and payments were needed.

Didn't think about that part... hehe

It is getting a little tired though it seems... IMO anyway...

Okay. I'm just gonna come right out and admit it. *I* am the mystery guest. In fact, I'm all THREE of the mystery guests. I have enough personalities to be at least 10 mystery guests. So. Satisfied??

And I just want to say that he's not the ONLY mystery guest. *I* am a mystery guest also.

As am I. But I'm probably more interesting than either of those other two guys.

Dang... I only got one extra room - do you think the three of you can manage?

Got my shirts the other day - The grey t-shirt is a little tight... but not too bad. The ringer T is great! Thanks Jae for the design!

Except for those that saw the finished film at the press screenings, anyone going to see Serenity prior to the Shindig? Hopefully, if things go better than that time, I'll see it next Tuesday!

Please visit the Serentiy Shindig Badges Voting thread before 6pm on Saturday, September 24 and vote for your favorite badge.

Also, I need everyone to please send me a PM with your first name so that I can compose the badges. Except for Langree. He gets to be "Mike/Ebenezer."

Yeah, I haven't ordered a shirt and I doubt I could get one in time for the festivities unless I had it shipped to Skittles or something.

Anyone that wants a shirt shipped to me is more than welcome to do that. Just PM me for my address and full name. And make sure you use at LEAST two day shipping, or else you're screwed.

Of course, I am not responsible if CafePress gets it to me too late... but I'm more than happy to send it on its merry way to folks after the fact, in the event it gets here too late.
