master and slave

is it ok when copying the tivo drive to a new drive if i have my new drive as the master and the tivo as the slave?

What matters is that you make sure your commands are correct for how you have the drives connected.

If I could just chew through these restraints...

It copies slower when you have both source and target HD's on the same IDE cable.

DirectTv since 11/96; DTivo since 11/04.
SD-DVR40 (dvr4me) 6.2 Zippered, 304 hrs (WD 320Gb).
HDVR2 6.2, 146 hrs (Seagate 160Gb).
