when to give up

I have an HDVR2 about 2 1/2 years old. A year and a half a go I changed the hard drive from a 40 hour to a 120 hour hard drive. I don't know if this caused me problems, but recently I played with back door options to re-sort my Now Playing list. But it started skipping funny while fast forwarding and occasionally re-booting. I know this may very well mean the hard drive is going bad, but I tried to do a total reset and clean. The reset and clean has now been running for about 80 hours and it is still just sitting there.

So how long should I want to see if ever comes back or should I just give up and replace the hard drive?

You have waited long enough.

Pull the power, and let the system boot up again. For a 120gb it should run no more then 8 hours ish.

It is just sitting there saying cleaning and deleting everything this will take an hour.

So when I pull the plug, should I just replace the hard drive?

I have no idea.... It just seems to take that long for a 120gb.
I guess it is basically doing a format of the drive except for the OS partition.

I hope you didn't sit there and wait all 80 hours.

Let see now (looking at watch)72 hours have gone by, I'll give it a few more minutes.

No I didn't but boy did I keep on turning back on the TV to check it out every few minuts at first then every few hours. (it was my only TiVo and Satellite receiver, so no TV for 3 days)

Pulled out 120 hard drive and put back in my 35 hour and it is back up and running. Now I just need to get another 120 to put back in.
