What shows do you watch with your kids?......

Jacob, my 9 year old, tivoed a nick news special "what is wrong with TV" and one of the things they said was that there aren't very many "family" shows on anymore. I was thinking about it and we have very few shows we watch with the kids I think the simpsons (depending on the rating), Malcom in the middle (again depending on the rating), and Mythbusters are really about it.

I was thinking recording star trek next generation and watching those with them (assuming spike continues to show them, we don't have G4). Most of those would be okay the only ones I can think of right now I wouldn't want to them to watch are one were Deanna finds out about her sister and the one where Picard is tortured by the Cardasian (I see 4 lights).

My youngest doesn't watch TV except for Full House - but we don't sit down and watch it with her.

The older two - we watch a lot of things together. Last night we watched Without a Trace. We also will watch the CSI's, NCIS, Close to Home, Commander in Chief.

America's Funniest Videos. Lots of laughing with this one.

Monk, although my youngest often buries his head during the murderous first minutes.

Animated: The Batman, Justice League Unlimited, Spiderman, Skyland.

Mostly my kids just watch cartoons. My oldest, age 7, likes Numbers. Sometimes we'll cover his eyes during the opening scenes, though, since somebody usually gets whacked.

My kids are 8 and 9. They mostly watch TiVo's stuff from PBS and Cartoon Network, and we watch movies together a lot. But TV together? Hardly anything. We watch Christmas specials (It's a Wonderful Life, A Christmas Story, Grinch, Charlie Brown Christmas, etc.) and sometimes other specials.

This season we watched TAR: Family Edition; I think that was the first and only regular series TV show we've watched as a family. I've just started recording ST:TNG for my son, but my daughter doesn't like SciFi (she won't even watch Star Wars movies) so we don't watch them very often. He also gets very nervous when dangerous things are happening even though I tell him none of the main characters will be injured (permanently anyway).

My kids, my wife, and I are so busy during the week that it was a real challenge to find even one hourlong block where we could all sit down and watch TV. We eat dinner together every night but often we eat late and by the time we're done it's too late for TV. We had to save TAR for the weekend more often than not.

My son is 13 now so kind of moving out of the 'kids' group but we watch Amazing Race, Malcolm, Simpsons, and perhaps surpisingly, What's My Line. He loves the game show and last night we saw Carl Sandburg, the namesake for his middle school. He wants to dump it to dvd to take to his principle.

My daughter, 3 1/2, watches Dora the Explorer, Go Diego Go, Dragontales, Lazytown and, formerly, Sagwa and the Wiggles. I worry, though, whether she will ever understand the sentence "We can't watch that because it's not on right now."

If my kids were tweens, I imagine we'd be watching... Yikes! I can't imagine what we'd be watching. Everything seems to have too much sex these days.

Son 3 1/2, pretty much the same as Royster; Dora, Diego, Lazytown, Backyardigans (best kids program out there), etc. Also throw in Food Network programming; Good Eats, Rachel Ray, etc since the youngin' can watch it too. Wife watches Hockey and Baseball with him; I hate sports so I usually go read a book in the other room.

Cooper is 2, he loves Dora, Diego, Oobi, Jack's Big Music Show, Lazytown, Postman Pat and Blues Clues.

He is grasping the concept of "Not on now" at the moments when he is offered TV and chooses something. Then maybe 5 minutes in he'll say something like "Don't want Blue's Clue's, wanna watch Oobi". To which I'll respond something like "Oobi isn't on now, BC's is on. If you don't want that I can turn off the TV."

My daughters six and she likes to watch all the usual kids stuff on her own bit if I watch any of the following without her at my side we have tears:

Startgate SG1
Stargate Atlantis
Charmed
Dr Who (She only knows the new stuff)

I think she a closet SCI-FI nut . She watches Star Wars again and again but I can't get her to like Star Trek as well - why would that be?

My son turned three over the summer and we have set up a few seasons passes only keeping 1 episode of his favorites. This way there's always something different.

Diego
Dragon Tales
Dora
Rugrats
Little Einsteins
Teenage Robot
Danny Phantom

Lately he likes to ask us, "Is this live?" because he wants to skip the commercials. He's starting to figure out how the Tivo works. He also figured out that the big yellow button is pause and he presses it whenever he needs a bathroom break.

My friend watches all the CSI's and shows like that with her 5 year old (soon to be 6). One day she found her picking at the carpet with a tweezer. When questioned, she showed my friend some threads and said she' "sending them to trace."
