Freaks and Geeks yearbook special edition DVD set

It arrived!

The show's been recommended several times, but I saw there was a special DVD set only available online that included a bunch of extras, and based on what I read of the show figured I should just spring for it.

So last week I remembered I wanted it and went over to the Freaks and Geeks web site and just went ahead and ordered the thing.

I can't wait to get home tonight and watch a couple episodes!

A lot of people seemed to have liked this show...kinda strange it didn't last. I liked it.

It's a great show, but $120 is pretty outrageous. It would have to have something seriously crazy (like some unknown 2nd season) to justify the cost - deepdiscountdvd has the "original" set for $42

So you've never seen the show??

It's simply one of the best dramas ever about high school life in the early 80's. For me that show was exactly like high school. For every character in there, there is someone I knew in school just like them. I ordered this exact "Yearbook" set when it first went on sale and my girlfriend, her kids and I are currently going through all the episodes, watching a couple together each weekend. Every member did such a great job with their parts. Too bad NBC never really believed in this show or we might have a good run of 4-5 years instead of one much too short season.

Yep, never seen it.

The regular DVD set is priced high, too (well, normally); they claim because of the high music rights cost. I can believe that. But the serious geekiness of the fan base that brought about some 30 commentary tracks on the DVD set made me figure that if I liked it, and there's a good chance I would based on what I'd read, I'd really like all the extras in the special edition set, too... so considering the $120 includes shipping costs, figured I can spring for a high priced set once in awhile.

The yearbook is really neat... I've only glanced through it, but it alone contains an awful lot. I do also want to get the box set for Undeclared... gotta remember to do that this week.

I like watching shows and saying - 'Hey, that's ____ from Freaks and Geeks!'

Burn in Hell NBC ! ! !

I was more pissed when this went off of the air than any other show. The show was really funny and also quite real.

I go back just to watch Bill, Bill was my favorite. You know he was the one who just turned into an ultra stud in college.

Arrow

This just reminded me how sad I was when I watched the final episode, knowing there won't be any more.

Thanks a lot, Doug! Why don't you bring up Firefly too?

Oh darn... now I thought about Firefly

Doug, you are going to enjoy this show SO much. I'm glad to see you got the deluxe DVD set-- it's without a doubt the most well put-together set (both packaging and extras) that I own. Well worth the extra money, IMO.

Can't wait to hear your reaction to the show.

God, I loved this show. !@#$ NBC for the crappy way they treated it.

I agree that the Deluxe DVD is well worth the dough for fans of the show. Good stuff. And there is a "regular" set available for people who don't want to shell out for all the bells and whistles.

Btw, at least most of the main cast has done well for themselves since the show was canceled. Franco obviously has quite a burgeoning film career, Rogen did himself well on that little Virgin movie (producer, too, I think? or writer?), Cardellini is on ER, and this year both Daley and Segel are in new shows (Kitchen Confidenitial and HIMYM). Unfortunately KC is no more, but still. And Busy Phillips has a show on UPN too, now that I think about it. So except for Samm Levine and poor Bill (whose name I can't remember right now), they are doing okay.

Well that was extremely disappointing.

The first DVD won't play the 2nd and 3rd episodes (tried on 2 different DVD models and on my computer). So I skipped those and watched all 3 on disk 2. I can definitely see I'm growing attached to all the characters after seeing just 4 episodes. This'll be good.

Now I gotta deal with getting Disk 1 replaced. This is gonna be annoying, I'm sure.

Since when did the Grateful Dead catch 'Metallica-itis?'

I firmly believe that the pilot of Freaks and Geeks is the best comedic pilot (dramedy, whatever you want to call it) I have ever seen.

I have both the year book and the normal box set. I bought the box set and after watching the all the episodes I started searching online for any other info about the show. I then found out about the year book version and ordered it.

I have the yearbook set as well. We really loved all the extra commentaries. It was worth it for us.

I finally got around to calling Sony regarding the bad DVD; the customer service rep said they'd had numerous such reports. They're going to send a replacement set from which I can check the DVD; she said that if it has a problem too the best they can do is keep swapping until I get a good one.

In any event I had simply downloaded the episodes I couldn't watch from the DVD, so I've seen everything.

I need to go back and watch them with commentary, though.
