British Sitcom Help!!!

My wife and I saw a British sitcom on a Maryland public broadcast station and now we cannot find the show anywhere, and we do not know what the exact name is. We have done searches on BBC America and still no luck.

It was based on 3 or 4 older men who seem to be life time buddies who can't help but get into trouble with everything they try to do. I would guess the show to be from the 80's. The episode that we saw was were they decided to enter a contest where they get into a barrel and are rolled down a long hill. They are trying to prove their manhood and that they are still young. The show was very funny and we loved the parts where they get into trouble with their wifes.

Can someone from the other side of the pond help us out?

Certainly sounds like Last Of The Summer Wine. Was set in pretty countryside, and was gently and smugly funny? I guess there's no point asking if the guys had funny accents?

Was one of the characters a particularly scruffy and unsavoury-looking shortish guy called Compo, who was obsessed with Nora Batty (and her underwear)?

Sound like the episode "Roll On" from 1990 - To prove they are still fit, the trio enter the local barrel rolling contest.

Thanks to all. Sounds like all of you have nail it. I have now found "Summer Wine" on my search list and three episodes are showing this week on the Philadelphia PBS station. I have our TiVo set to record. I hope the shows are as good as the "Roll On" episode that we saw.

Thanks again to all on the other side of the pond.
