If my Tivo is right, Spike's going to re-air the premiere again on Saturday afternoon.

You can always just go by what they talk about. Bean is the island dwelling, anmial-loving, Mariner-rooting social outcast and Kevin is the gay one. It's pretty simple really.

True, True!

You know I've never had a problem telling them apart, since they first started. I think they sound pretty different to me.

She didn't tell me who the Mole was either, so I doubt I will get it out of her. But, if he is truly unaware as you all claim, then why does he seem like he is more aware of the dupe than the 'actors'?

How would your theory even come close to making sense???

So you're saying that you think that all of the actors on the show are pretending to be actors and Matt is the true actor? Not a chance. I'm not saying that there isn't some surprise awaiting, I'm just saying it's not this one.

No, that's not what she's saying. Her theory is that Matt is actually in on the joke, but that the hired actors don't know this. And so he's purposely screwing up their plans and games, for the fun of watching them scramble.

(I don't believe this to be the case, but that's the theory people are throwing around.)

Oh, ok. That makes more sense although if that were the case it would make it more enjoyable for the viewing audience if we were made aware of that being the case. Without that being revealed in advance, it's rather weak as a device.

I simply saw the use of the word schmoe in the post and thought it was being used in the same way as it is in the show title.

I sure hope the producers/writers aren't dumb enough to believe that such a development would be anything even close to approaching interesting.

I started to have thoughts along those lines that Matt is in on it, and is actually putting the other actors through their paces. I can't imagine he would EVER take his hand off that porn star's boob (even if the game was over and he'd already won).

But ya know... he's a moron, through and through. He can't possibly be doing that good a job of acting for us and for the other actors. If he is deceiving us and the actors, he deserves an Emmy!

I've enjoyed watching it so far, but the premise is really horrifying. How would you feel if you were that guy??? I mean, it's not any really bad reflection on him so far (he IS supposed to be playing on a reality show), other than he's a generic moron. But when this is over I'd buy the biggest rock I could find so I could crawl under it for a few years and not have to come out.

OK, I finally caught the second episode. After listening to muggum, and watching it, I now believe that Matt is not in on the joke. I think what makes it weird is that everyone on reality shows tries to ham it up a bit, so people acting weird does not mean that they are actors. This guy Matt really gets into it. Man, OK, you like wearing Brittney's costume and getting spanked, we got it. At least he is having a good time at it.

Now, my theory that he was in on it made sense in the light of him not supporting the show in interviews afterwards. That would be a good cover story till the end is revealed. But, if he is not in on the joke, then he must be really upset. Muggum, can you tell us more about that?

Also, I don't see the correlation between putting a twist like that in, and losing your credibility. I think it would garner more talk, and work out positive for you in the end. I'm just saying I would not be upset, I would be the kind of viewer who would say, "I knew it!" and talk about it more to people.

The people who go on reality TV should know that they can get into some serious trouble being on camera all the time. Just because he was fooled in this game doesn't mean that he wouldn't come off exactly the same on a "real" reality TV show. He went on the show to win 10K and I assume he probably will win it. I feel bad for him being the object of a huge pratical joke, but so far I like Matt and he seems like a genuinely nice guy and he really hasn't made a fool of himself. Most of us probably would do the same things if we were put in his place, kinda being nudged along to get us to do what the producers want.

I disagree with this -- Matt might be a goofball but I don't see any indication that he's a moron. It's easy to sit back and watch the show, with all the sidebars and actor confessionals, and make fun of Matt for missing the "obvious" clues. But put yourself in that surreal situation, and you'd be amazed what you overlook! There are cameras following you around, watching your every move. There's strange people you're forced to live with and bizarre games you have to play. And there's the lure of a cash prize.

So no, I don't think Matt is a moron. If anything, I'm impressed with what he *does* notice, and the convictions he maintains while playing his game.

Well, true... "moron" was a strong word. I don't mean that he's stupid, but that he acts so childish and stupid at times. During the swimsuit competition, he was going for the Oscar out there for no reason. Just walk out, show your ugly butt in that unflattering outfit, and go stand over there. No, he starts channeling Marilyn Monroe standing over the grate. Maybe he's just overly enthusiastic, but it was one of the things that made me think he was in on it.

And he's so "midwestern" it hurts (not that that's a bad thing).

I don't see how he could be upset over the duplicitousness of the show. Regardless of whether or not they were duping him, he acted the way he did based on what was happening around him. He can't say "well, if I had known it was fake I wouldn't have pranced around in a thong or acted like I enjoyed being spanked."

Anyone still have the premiere available? If so, I would pay dearly to have it on tape. PM me if you are willing and able. Thanks!

I am trying to figure out if I have seen this entire thing so far. I saw the two hour premier and I saw the second episode where they got rid of the first person. Now is the third episode where they clean the house in weird costumes and the second episode with the porn star? I keep thinking I have only seen three episodes of this. But I have not seen them get rid of a second person.

Fofer hit the nail on the head. Matt is a really bright guy, not at ALL a moron.

I can't talk about how the show ended / Matt's reaction / etc. for various reasons. But the suspense will definitely build!

You've seen them all. The first two-hour episode is when they kicked out Gina. The second episode (which was only one hour), they didn't kick out anybody.

I'm feeling bad for Matt.. watching him say in the tub what he thought of those people when it was all a lie. That went a bit too far, IMHO. It came off cruel to hear him say how he is glad so-and-so is his friend when they aren't really.

Otherwise a lot of the other stuff is fun.

I believe the winning prize is $100,000! Which hopefully he will get to 'ease the pain'.

I'm pretty sure that they would have to give him the money. You can put someone on a TV show and lie about the fact that it's a reality TV show, but I think that legally it would be hard to get away with putting someone on a TV show and telling them they have a chance to win $100k, when the money never existed to begin with.

muggum,

Ralph Garmon isn't doing much to support what you've said here. Before you came here, I emailed him questioning if Matt was in on it, and he never returned my email. That didn't surprise me much, but he has returned emails in the past. Then, on Friday, a radio listener called in and said "Me and my buddies have a theory that Matt is just another actor, and the audience is the real "shmoe". Ralph's response was "O.K. well you've figured it out then". No other comments. Yea, I know that this could simply be a sarcastic comment, but it didn't help AT ALL with disproving the theories that have been brought up here.

You have seen everything so far. Only one person (or actor) has been voted off. The first episode appeared to be two episodes combined for a 2 hour show. The second episode was the one where the cleaned house. A new episode will be on Tuesday night.

I've listened to Ralph on KROQ now for 7 years and that sounds exactly like the sarcastic remark that he would make. I wouldn't read too much into what Ralph says. He is rarely serious about anything. His most serious day was on Sept 11, 2001, when he & Doc on the Roc did the reporting on the terrorist attacks.

Hey muggum, great way to pad your post count!
