Two "Cs" and one "B" in Sactcramento

I have 3 of the Hughes HDVR2s purchased when they first came out from Circuit City (2) and Good Guys (1). Within the last week, two of the units have upgraded to the C software. What are the improvements supposed to be in the upgrade ?

This morning i pulled up now playing to finish a movie i was watching last night, i noticed that 80% of the channel icons were missing. I think ut oh thats odd(not upgraded unit) so i check system statis and it says pending restart. I'm thinking now good i got the update over the night, did the restart and all is working well. Icons are back, the annoying bottom banner of wait till 2 days for guide data info to fill is gone. All seems well even tho at the moment i'm doing my addiction of being online so haven't checked out anything else on the D'Tivo. But knock on wood looks like all systems are go..

Yes, the ones I have noticed are UPN, and Trio.

Many other have changed color or style, such as VH1, VH1 Classic, Fuse and Showtime. Showtime changed colors from orange to white.

There may be others, but these are to only ones I remember.

Just got "C" last week. My now playing list no longer allows me to choose the sort method. I reapplied the code (slow - 0 - record - TUp), but no luck. Anyone know if there's a new code for version C? Code for programming the 30 second skip button works fine.

"C" upgrade came in last (Saturday) night. Rebooted the box and got my sort and 30 second skip working again today. The mystery "aquiring black box" message is now gone..

I haven't noticed any other changes. I thought someone mentioned the menus being faster, but have not found that to be the cause..

I received the update over the weekend. (New Jersey)

Reapplied 30sec skip and it works. Other than the new WB logo (anyone else notice the logos look bigger??? Or is it just my imagination)

Sad to report the Dolby 5.1 sound problem is still apparent. When I changed to HBO to watch the Sopranos last night, the sound was cutting out every 1 second or so. All I had to do was pause for a second and it was fine from then on.

Haven't noticed anything else. I never had the acquiring data problem, so it was a non-issue for me to see if it is fixed.

Anyone know what else the update is supposed to address, since it appears the sound problem is not fixed...

Thanks

I also just got it. It would be interesting to see the poll if we were allowed to change our vote.

Both B's here - Series 1...

I just hacked my box yestrday, installing an Airnet card, TivoWebPlus, etc.. do I need backups of that, will the C software overwrite that? Or should I be ok?

Something looks different to me, and I think some of the logos are bigger, possibly SHO, A&E, WB and TLC. There are some new ones, possibly FLIX, FX and Discovery Times, and Fine Living.

Something looks different about SHO, Showtime Too and SHO West. I don't remember having a separate SHO West logo.

Got C last night (monday morning) on one of two HDVRx's. Bringing up the Now Playing list definitely seems faster!

I'm still on B. It's frustrating -- I want C soon so I can have closed captions that work properly.

I keep thinking I'm getting the "c" update as it starts downloading and goes for about 5-10 mins but then it stops. I don't remember it doing so much downloading during the daily call before without there being some sort of update. Guess it likes to tease me.

Trevor I have noticed the same thing, the normal daily call download does seem to take longer than it used to. Does anyone know if it is doing something different or is the server running slow thanks to all the extra calls hoping for "c"?

B & B here. Just think, for those of us getting the new HD D*TiVo's we may have to wait for this fix to download again on those if they don't preload it.

Just think of how things would be, if TIVO was only semi-functional on all 300,000+ machines and it takes two months to find the problem and certify a fix, and another three or four months to roll out the update, which is what is happening now. And even worse, when there are 600,000+ machines by early next year, it could take six to eight months to roll out an update, which extends the time that it takes to roll out a patch to eight or ten months!

TIVO and DirecTV need to rethink the software patch process. Both companies could be in real trouble if something really went wrong.

Even worse, what are they going to do when there are a million or more machines? Their patch plan needs to allow software updates via satellite!

Which is a really good argument for rolling things out slowly.

It has been stated by a fairly reliable source that there will be a major version update to the DirecTiVo software in a few months, and that one of the features was probably going to be the ability to update via satellite.

Even if they do that, they won't want to upgrade everybody at once, so they will still do a controlled slow roll-out to test things before they fully release it.
