WOW $79.99 for a 40 hr TiVo!!! Prices this low makes me think that new TiVo's could be on their way soon.

I just ordered a 40 hour refurb from TiVo 2 days ago for $99.99 (after rebate). I'll be calling them up on Monday to see if they will give me the $20 discount. I don't see why not, its well within the 30 day money back guarantee.

thanks!!
I knew there was a reason I didn't plunk my $ down yesterday.

Oddly, if you don't use the provided link and instead go to the main tivo page and click threw to the refurbished tivo's for sale page, the price is still $99.

Again Thanks for passing the $79 link on to us!!!

Note Thank you!

I was wanting to get a second TIVO for my bed room, and was almost going to buy the 40 hour unit from Best Buy and get it for $119 after rebate. But at this price it couldn't be beat! Thank you for posting this link!

You'll have to pay for the return shipping to Tivo

And pray that you are credited correctly when the unit arrives back at Tivo. I guess you could always dispute it on your credit card.

G-d I really want a 40 hour TiVo to upgrade but I want to wait for the newer units to come out. I don't know how much longer I can wait.

the newer units will just look different or will they have new design to the hardware like say more usb ports, faster processor, etc?

Yowza...

Glad I dragged my feet a bit ! I was thinking about just buying one locally, but after considering sales tax, and now this extra $$$ it's just too great of a difference.

Thanx for the heads up

Boy, THAT should put a dent in ebay sales !

Then again, ebay morons regularly pay MORE than retail for used items

It's my understanding the differences are;
looks,
tivo emblem night light on front
the software is v. 5 as opposed to v.4 as in most current S2's. Apparently v.5 can be upgraded to a much bigger HD unlike the v. 4 which you can only put a 120gig HD in.

I'm not a geek so I might have missed something.

well hopefully they dont jack the prices up just cause of the case. Why would anyone want to pay more cause of a case? Hopefully it be the same price.

I may be mistaken... but the v.5 units will also be able to do the initial setup via Broadband.

I don't think there's a way to upgrade from v.4 to v.5 but I could be wrong.

I just bought a refurb unit a couple of days ago for $99.00.

I already have the thing packed up and ready to return first thing Monday morning if Customer Service won't refund the $20.00.

It will only cost about $6.00 for me to return via UPS Ground Commercial. That means I can still save about $14.00 by reordering at the lower price. This was going to be my second TiVo so I can live without it for a couple days. It is only a one day delivery for me so I can probably order Monday and have it on Tuesday ... Wednesday at the latest.

For those of you who are going to say "it is only $14.00" ... call up TiVo and ask them to waive your monthly service bill for next month ... when they refuse ... tell them "it is only $12.95"

That's like a study I remember reading about somewhere concerning the number of people who would pay $10 for a product vs. $5 for the same product, and then how they would react to a $150 vs. $145. Either way you're saving $5, but the mentality is the percentage of the deal...

Awesome! Thanks jmace57! Finally snagged the bedroom unit. This discount, free MRV and low service cost finally hooked me. Even though I upgraded my original 40 hour ATT to 200 hours, I decided to go the simple route and just buy the 80 hour unit. I most likely will download some of those shows I never got around to watching to it, and take it with me in the motorhome on vacation this summer.

Not buying lifetime goes against my normal thinking but at 43 months or 3 1/2 years before it payback I think I'll go monthly. By then, who knows what will be avaliable.

And I just called Tivo to cancel the order. I'm buying the Toshiba SD-H400 at BB instead. It's an 80 hour unit, with DVD for $150 after rebate. That's less than the 80 hour refurb! Duh!

http://www.newegg.com/app/viewProdu...-122-108&depa=0

I'm currently using the same netgear adapter for my living room tivo.

I just picked up a Open Box with the UPC at Best Buys for $99 bucks, then take the $50 rebate, net cost is about $50 for a 40 hour unit.

I am calling and have been on hold on and off for about 45 minutes. About a minute of me talking = 10 minutes of hold time.

So far they have no idea what to do with me.

They swore up and down they have never sold them for $79.99 until I pointed out the web page. Then, it was back on hold. 15 minutes and counting.

Edit: Getting $20 credit.

It was a five hour sale was a run on Saturday that they forgot to mention to customer service. Currently, they have forgotten to take the page down, that is why I was able to get the credit. Hard to say how long that page will remain up now that they know.
