I made the newbie mistake of finishing other things first (like moving!) and went in to BB yesterday. I was staring at the 299 tag mentally kicking myself. Hard. Repeatedly.

Well - the $80 refurb it will be, I guess ... but not nearly as incredible a deal as the Toshiba was - especially if I had gotten one that didn't flicker.

Spilt milk. Sob.

Well, given that Best Buy repeated the $199 promo once already, I wouldn't be surprised if within weeks the price was down again. You might also have luck finding an open box unit - I'm sure there were a number of buyer's-remorse returns after the feeding frenzy spurred by the $199 promotion.

edited because Toshiba != Best Buy

Thanks to all those who posted the link & good experiences with this deal. I finally decided to buy my first Tivo & was just about to head over to BB when I checked the forum again to see if I should be looking at different units. I saw this link & saved $50!
Ordered Thursday night (late), arrived Tuesday, all intact & in good condition. I had lurked here before & joined to say thanks & what a great resource this place is. Looking forward to becoming a Tivo fanatic like the rest of you!

Thanks - good suggestion. Just for the component video output AND the Optical Audio output, I think I'll hold off on a second TiVo purchase.

Thought I'd also add that on both my trips to two local BestBuys in the area (trying to track down an OpenBox or still-marked @ 199 box), I TiVo-ngelized to a bunch of eager potential buyers. Feels good They all loved the fact that TiVo2Go is coming out soon!

I've got another Tivo in the mail... shipped yesterday, delivery scheduled tomorrow. I think I'm addicted. At this price, maybe I could use a Tivo and a TV in the bathroom too!

Got my $79 unit today...Pretty great-2 days from order date. Mine shipped from Utah. They must have places all over the country. Hooked up. Not so much a nightmare as hooking the first one up. YAY! Waiting (tapping foot with impatience! heh) for the Tivo gods to get me hooked up.

Everything looked like new. Now {GET THIS!} my husband thinks he might want another one! (He was all about 'seems like a waste of money blah blah blah') LMAO

Didn't go for one of the refurbs, but I did win a Series2 60hr unit on e-Bay yesterday, so I have officially become a multi-TiVo household. The wife doesn't know yet ... I'll figure out how to explain that when the unit arrives.

Can't wait to try out multi-room viewing.

Whoa!

Now I don't know whether to buy a second one and then feel stupid about it whensomething shockingly new comes out, or if something shocking happens (Dang - I hope not) ... or to just wait!

And if I buy now, I'd get an 80 hour, for the $50 extra - just to retain the never-opened never-modified tag, in case I need to sell it in a hurry, eh?
