Joe Schmo 2 - Ep. 4 - "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner" - 7/5/04 - *SPOILERS*

Here's our thread for the fourth episode of Joe Schmo 2... "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner".

If you're reading this before Monday night... I'll repeat again. Episode 4 is a ONE-AND-A-HALF HOUR SHOW that first airs following "WWE Raw" on Monday night, 11:05 PM ET/PT. WWE frequently runs over...last week, it was over about 7 minutes late. Add that to the extra length of the show, the inaccurate 55 minute time listed in the program guide, and it's probably a good idea to pad an hour to the end of it.

If this conflicts with other stuff you have going, set it up to record Tuesday at 10 PM ET/PT, and be sure to keep the extra half hour in mind.

This show had the most shocking eviction ceremony yet! I've never laughed so hard!

I wonder if Matt will come in when they tell Ingrid..IF they tell Ingrid.
Actually, I think they tell her but still keep her in, she seems like she would have a blast playing along.

It's obviously tough enough keeping improv actors in line -- if I were a director I wouldn't trust a non-actor to "play along" because they might really suck at doing improv. I agree with the one director who said that it was their job to use the tools at hand (their cast of actors) to maintain the believability of the otherwise increasingly unbelievable and ridiculous situations which the Schmoes were to be subjected. Rise to the challenge! If they could pull it off in spite of ingrid's skepticism, the rewards would be that much greater ... in theory, at least.

Speaking of that...did anyone notice that at one point in the past two shows, they said "The most shocking teaser for the most shocking eviction ceremony yet!" I laugh until I cried.

I still laugh at "and this time...WE MEAN IT!" Part of what they've set up already with the "ridiculous" teases to the eviction ceremonies...made that even funnier.

I also didn't notice the changes in Ingrid's tag lines in Ep. 3, until it was pointed out on here.

I'm a huge fan of the ABC-TV overnight news show "World News Now"... I've been watching it since nearly day one, when Aaron Brown and Lisa McRee were broadcasting to an audience of dozens. They pretty much pioneered the use of "funny superimposed taglines" for their anchors. When long-time WNN sub Bill Greenwood (now with ABC's radio side) was there, they superimposed over the female co-anchor "(Anchor Name) / Learned all she knows about sports from Bill Greenwood". And this is a NEWS show!

Maui and I could have a watching party. That is, if I weren't one of those creepy old reclusive women kids make fun of and scare other kids by saying she'll eat them.

I used to watch World News Now all the time, and still do from time to time when I can't sleep. Oddly, I've never noticed that. I'll look out for it next time.

After last week's episode, I went ahead and read the earlier interview with Ingrid in the Ventura County Star. I figured that, like most interviews with reality show contestants, she would be somewhat coy about what happens next. I also assumed that any minor spoilers in the article would only cover last week’s episode. After all, why spill one’s guts for a minor newspaper no one out of Southern California has ever heard of?

What mistaken assumptions on my part.

Ingrid was her straightforward self and didn't seem to hold anything back. I wouldn't be surprised if the JS2 ending wasn't published only because of self-restraint on the part of the newspaper.

Ingrid claims she wants to be like Madeleine Albright. However, it seems that she already has a heavy touch of Ms. Albright’s predecessor, Daniel Patrick Moynihan. Moynihan is best known for his candor and is famous for telling the Russian Ambassador during a United Nations session that “We don’t give a damn.”

I’ve thought that the dilemma with Ingrid might have been a bit exaggerated to make it a better plot device. However, I’m beginning to believe that she really did (and is apparently continuing to) give the producers headaches. (What silly little non-disclosure agreement?) Ra! for strong, independent, and intelligent women!

OOOOH! duh!

Spoilerized...about MKG

Spoiler Alert! (highlight to read)
He isn't gonna be the new schmo, is he? The pizza delivery guy cameo story could just be an awesome cover! Or am I getting my hopes up? Oh, and am I the only one watching tv, seeing something I want to comment about, turning my head and posting here?

(I'm almost wondering if the hour and a half thing was to throw us off on the plot twists. I mean, there has been a LOT of discussion about the length of this episode. But probably not. If it was though, that's kind of funny.)

Edited to note: I have no idea why I felt like that should go in parenthesis.

You know, this show had so much going on in it, yet, I'm a little disappointed.

No MKG? What happened?

A 90 minute episode that ended up being only 60 minutes?

What happened with the females and the new Jane Schmo during the day? I would've liked to see what happened instead of the brief two minutes.

Mr. Reese, please address the above concerns.

However, I will give kudos to you for doing what you did with Ingrid. Terrific idea. Hope it works out.

Looking forward to next week... from Ralph.. umm... I mean, Derek, "I'm sorry we had to see that... on such a small monitor." Congrats to Tim for next week's ep as well. At least he's scoring a point for the men.

Muggum has said, in another thread, that it's a loooong story behind the 60 minute episode. I'm just assuming it's network stuff, but I'm certain he'll clear it all up as soon as he can.

By the way, this was by far my favorite episode this season. Very well done!

Can't wait to hear what's up, Muggum. I was lookin forward to some MKG action.

What I dislike is the fact that the SpikeTV watermark is now opaque. It obstructed some of the subtitles in the hard-to-hear parts. It was transparent last week, what happened?

So many questions, and unfortunately most of them are towards the network, not the show. :/

Fans of Reality TV just hit 199 total viewers in the Joe 2 forum. Far above our high water mark of last year (What was that, 120?). Let's hope it translates to ratings!

Yeah, I just read that part of the thread that you posted. What is more important to SpikeTV? Joe Schmo or Police Videos? I think they could've squeezed the extra 30 minutes in there.
