Is the hold up the video quality issues, or simple manufacture and distribution time? I mentioned before that they are included ion the rebate sooo maybe there is still a chance that we will see them before the end of Sept. Anymore thoughts?? Please stay on the topic of release time and specific boxes (Toshiba and Humax combo). Thanks.

See my post a few posts above yours. Humax is out and was advertised yesterday at J&R (NYC). Go to jr.com. They have 2 models and say it ships in a day or two. Amazon has it but they are using J&R as their vendor. I googled the T2500 and several other places were carrying it.

Added later: free shipping at J&R and $100 rebate.

I think the hard drive is well worth it to avoid the "pause, FF, play, start recording again" ridiculousness that I was doing with VCRs.. So I'll just dump from Tivo to hard drive on other machine, edit, and dump to DVD.. (For some shows I'll record directly on the other machine to save a step.)

BTW, at least in Japan, the Toshiba RDXS53 (successor to the RD-XS32) has *dual tuners* (and a DVD recorder of course). It's supposed to come to the US in October.

Very good point about the hard drive I neglected to mention that. The "a lot more time" that I was referring to was the fact that you have to transfer the programming over to the DVD recorder in real time. Granted you can start it and walk away but on two different occasions in the week that I had the 810H I had friends over to watch a show and after we watched the show they asked if they could have a copy of it. I was able to give them a copy before they left that night which is something that I would not have been able to do if I had to transfer to a standalone unit. Personally I think that it would be easier to just manually program the standalone DVD HD based recorder to record the program directly rather than use TiVo to record it and then transfer it over (this of course assumes that you know before hand that it is something that you want to keep). The beauty of the TiVo DVD combos is the ease involved. Commercial editing would be nice but I'm still going to buy one of the new Toshibas or the Humax (whichever comes out first) even without it.

The Humax units that are currently available are SA Series 2s only.....not the DVD combo. The DVD combo is supposed to come out in "Fall 2004" whatever that may mean.

I am starting to think that we are not going to see the combo untis until the "holiday season" I really think they would want to release these boxes before Tivo2Go comes out.

I picked up a new magazine tonight called SYNC and they have an ad for a Toshiba RS-TX20, a HDD/DVD Recorder with TiVo and 120 GB of HDD storage. "Introducing the toshiba..." blah blah...

Don't know if this one has been mentioned but the Toshiba site itself doesn't have it listed...

Apparently they will be priced at $499, and according to the rebate, if they come out before the end of Sept they will have a $100 rebate.

The humax site leads potential purchasers to this site for the DVD/TiVo combo:

At this point, including an extensive google search, save for the ads, the item is looking like ghostware.

Andrewp75...I too cannot find it anywhere save on the cNet site (the review)..Curious thing..I saw the review yesterday before the poster posted the link above. Since I saw the review there have been two reviews posted today. Wonder if they are people from this forum...

I'd like to get more info on it because if it has a firewire input for camera, has that many recording hours and has better PQ, I hate to say it but, I may take my Pioneer 810 back to Best Buy before my 30 days runs out. Just depends on the street price...

The real question is whether the easter eggs that work specifically on the Pioneer will work with the Toshiba. I don't think so since the front display appears to be very different.

Andrew the first thing I did was go to the web address. Usually those mag ads have a three month or so lead time so maybe they are having trouble getting it out the door...

I just hope the Toshiba RS-TX20 has 30-sec skip and is upgradeable. The Toshiba SD-H400 DVD player with Tivo lacks those two capabilities.

I also hope it includes Tivo Basic service. The Humax DVD writer will not include Tivo Basic service, according to the latest Tivo conference call. Evidently, Humax didn't want to pay the licensing fee.

According to the cNET review it does include Basic but I really think if it didn't have the ability to do the 30 second hack, it would be a deal killer for me. Its my most used 'feature'...

On the Pioneer units there is a code which causes the front display to blink 12:00 and another which causes the display to look like the Knight Rider scanner.

If I recall correctly:
Go to Search By Title
Type in VCRCLOCK and press Thumbs Up

Go to Search By Title
Type in KNIGHTRIDER and press Thumbs Up

Ok - now how do I get rid of the knight Rider? Do I have to do a reboot?

With the VCRCLOCK one -- opening the DVD tray clears it.

Dan, I tried entering it again and all I could get was the 'boing'...

Ot's got to be at least a month!!!

I'm eagerly awaiting the Toshiba units and intend to buy one as soon as they appear at Best Buy.

However, I can't help but thinking that it's going to be a month at least before I see them there. My local Best Buy has a wall of the older (current) Toshiba and Pioneer units still on the racks. Surely they want to clear these out before they introduce the new ones. There's not even shelf space for the new ones.

Any Best Buy (otherwise) sightings yet?
