Get 6 FREE months of the DIRECTV HD package

I just received this memo at 6:43 PM tonight.

DIRECTV HD Package Offer
"Get Six Months FREE of the DIRECTV HD Package Starting August 5!

We are so excited about all the high-definition programming that will be available from DIRECTV this fall — we just had to create a new offer that would give customers no excuses to miss out! Starting August 5, 2004, any residential DIRECTV customer (new or existing) who activates the DIRECTV® HD Package with an annual commitment to any DIRECTV® TOTAL CHOICE® programming package will receive the first six months of the DIRECTV® HD Package for FREE. In the seventh month, customer’s DIRECTV HD package subscription will continue at the regular price of $10.99/mo.

This offer can be combined with any other offers the customer is eligible for. However, please note, that the “Up to Three Rooms Free” promotion does not include the hardware needed to receive HD hardware. If you choose to advertise the DIRECTV HD programming offer with a hardware offer, please be sure to clearly indicate the cost of HD hardware.

OFFER DETAILS:
Any residential customer who activates the DIRECTV® HD Package between August 5, 2004 and December 31, 2004, and commits to one year of any DIRECTV® TOTAL CHOICE® programming package will receive the first six months of the DIRECTV® HD Package free.

OFFER FULFILLMENT:
Qualifying customers will receive the first six months of the DIRECTV® HD Package free. In the seventh month, the DIRECTV® HD Package will roll to a payable charge of $10.99 per month, unless customer calls to change service."

Combined with many more HD channels soon to be announced thsi is great news for all new DIRECTV HD subscribers.

So, my system gets installed Friday. Do I need to call and ask for this deal to be added to my account, or will it automatically go into effect?

Happens all the time. I wonder if retention knows anything about it?

I am on the phone now with retention and they have no idea of this promotion. She looked and could not find anything in their computer.

Ok....she talked to a supervisor and according to them:

It is for new and existing customers.
You must buy a Samsung HD receiver and activate it on your account
You must commit to 1 year programming (isn't that the norm anyway when activating a receiver?)
It goes into effect on September 1st

Of course, this could be a different promotion than Robert got notification for. I would also guess that anyone spending $1000 for an HD TiVo verses the $300 for a Samsung HD receiver would be able to convince retention to give them the package once it is available in their computers.

I'll make sure I get it. I spent the $1,000 for teh HD Tivo and I'm sure I'll be able to convince them to get me the deal. This deal doesn't sound anything like the one Robert notified us about.

Must you buy this Samsung HD receiver from DTV directly, and if so, are they still honoring the $99 installation deal?

No, you don't have to buy it directly from DirectTV....from what retention said, they sent an email out to their re-sellers, so I assume it is good for any HD receiver purchase.

I bought an HD receiver less than a month ago, would I still be able to get this deal? The memo initally posted does not mention needing to buy HD hardware to get this discount.

I called Directv CSR and they had no idea what I was talking about...

Unix thats a completely different deal I think.

I called and got the we have no idea what you are talking about response I told them it was on page 8c and 9c of USA today. They said it must be a dish ad or fake. I told them well its definitely D* since it mentions Sunday Ticket and I doubt someone would spend the money it costs for a two page ad in USA Today as a prank on D*. They need to get their head out of their ass. How can they run a 2 page ad in a national newspaper and no one knows anything about it. Although I was told they are getting lots of calls. Well send someone to the store with a dollar to buy a freaking newspaper so you can be informed of your companies own ads.

Its in today's USA Today, and the DTV CSR still had no friggin' idea about it?

Yeah, DTV needs some better intra-corporate communications.

I think I'll wait a few weeks before I call. I hate calling companies and educating their staff about their current promotions.

I was waiting to re-up the HD package for Sunday night football. As long as I'm hooked up by then, I'll be OK. I can afford to wait a week for you guys to work D* over for me .

This is great. I was just about to call to add this (or add via the web), but like Fofer and Dave47, I'll wait until the CSRs know about it.

Maybe Robert will post an update on how to get this package discount.

I think it says the Sunday ticket offer is for new customers. Here is a pdf of the fax that all dealers got yesterday.

HD special offer

Boy, the odds of catching someone bright are a lot better among the people handling us Pegasus-transfer folks [special phone#]. Not that anyone had any answers about this.

But, I got a young woman named Carol who wrung out her computer searching for info on this offer. She's on her way to talk to her super and if she can get anything sorted, she'll call me back, today. Otherwise, she told me to call back in, again, tomorrow.

She said it's usually a full day before special offers like this get out to the CSR's. The honchos are always worried about something breaking early.

Being on a lot of boards like this, most every product has their customer service problems.

But nothing is like D*'s problem that the frontline CSR's don't know what the heck is happening most of the time.

In the directv credit thread, the "C" problem thread, the CSR's almost call people liars for saying that other people got certain credits, or that there have been numerous calls about the "C" issue.

I doubt it's their fault really. In this case, i don't think they have a memo on their monitor and they're just ignoring it, I just think there is some major breakdown in communications in that company, and a lot of people need to be fired. It's embarrasing for them.

Anyway, i was going to get the HD package pretty soon, so this is great, and after 6 months there will probably be enough new channels that the price will be warranted.

I just called and got the deal and I was an existing customer CSR was great knew exactly what I was talking about. I was her first so she did need to go to the supervisor to figure out how to do it. She shut off HD channels and turned them back on to activate the credit.

Again D* let me "Feel The Joy"

Note

Existing HD customer, just called and got the six months free, with no problem. It did take a few minutes as the rep had to find it in the system.

Me too.

Just got off the phone. No problems. The young lady said that I was the first one that she had done and wanted to make sure she did it right. 6 months free HD package. Good deal.
