TC-Con'05 Payments Received and Official Information

What: TC-Con 2005
Where: Las Vegas!
When: Monday, June 13, 2005. This is the convention date - people will likely be there for several days with lots of informal gatherings.
Why: Because TC-Con'04 was so much fun we had to do it again! There is information about the convention all over.
Cost: $85/person + hotel and any money you want to bring for "other Vegas activities".
Hotel: NYNY it is! For complete information and reservations, please see the official hotel thread.

Please note!! If you are considering coming to TC-Con now, please contact Hippster or Skittles via PM prior to making any payments via Paypal! We will need to confirm your attendance before we can accept payment.

DUE TO THE EVENT BEING SO CLOSE NOW, REFUNDS MAY NO LONGER BE GIVEN.

For a full list of all events, please visit the OFFICIAL CALENDAR OF EVENTS THREAD

The convention itself will be on Monday, June 13. Probably Monday evening.

Hotel room rates generally are their lowest Sunday through Thursday nights. So many folks may arrive Sunday and stay until Thursday or Friday. Some will arrive Monday morning and leave Tuesday morning. Depends on how long you want to stay.

The location is still being determined. The Flamingo seems to be a leading choice, because of its inexpensive rates and well-regarded pool, but it's not the only candidate.

Don't you people work during the week? At least for me, fun trips during the week end up being more costly.

Yep. But last year's TC-Con sounded like a blast and I'd like to try and make it this time around.

So come Sunday and leave Tuesday, Fofer! That's only two days off from work. It'd be great to meet you.

Can we get an estimated room rate as that will determine if I'll be able to make it. (must budget the monies!)

I'm still collecting data, however.....

It's looking like we're gonna end up at the Flamingo. The advantages of the Flamingo...
  1. Cost: At $68/night it's gonna be on the low end of the cost spectrum for hotels on the strip. Most people have stated things like, "As long as it's clean, I'm cool." Those who want fancier rooms can either upgrade or literally go across the street to Ceasar's Palace.
  2. Location: It's right smack-dab in the middle of the strip and the monorail even has a Flamingo station.
  3. Pool: It's got one of the best pools in Vegas.
It's not official yet, but I just don't see anybody else beating that combination of benefits.

Room rate was mentioned in another thread, but IIRCwe're looking at $68/night. (edit2: went back and confirmed it, $68/night)

edit: Oh, and Fofer? You could even fly in on Sunday and take the red-eye out Monday night thereby only missing one day of work.

I could be way off base on this. But, with the obvious exception of meeting everyone, I don't see Vegas as a fun place to go if your under 21.

Eh, even as a kid I *loved* Vegas (and that was before the aborted "Vegas as a family destination" stuff). Most of the stuff I enjoy there even today is totally kid friendly...

I've gone to Vegas all my life, and it kind of went like this.

(10-17) loved it (circus circus etc...)
(18-20) so frustrating
(21-now) FINALLY!!!

For me it's always been like this....

Looks into wallet, sees a fat wad of cash(*): I love Vegas!
Looks into wallet, sees very little if anything: *sigh*

In age terms?

10-18: Love it! (Thank you, Daddy Warbucks!)
18-30: *sigh* (I've got a mortgage and a car payment and tuition and....)
30+: Love it! (Finally...disposable income that is MINE to dispose of)

(*) Allowing for the fact that the amount of money that defines a "fat wad" changes with age.

The wife and I still considering it. I've stayed at the Flamingo, so we need to decide where we're going to stay if we go to the Con. That's why we haven't put in a deposit yet.

I'm willing to bet it's because we're hidden in here and don't have a sticky link from Happy Hour. Maybe the mods can fix that.

(Side note: I'm just gonna pay Hippster when he's here for the Hotallas gathering. )

Yeah. I think THIS meet should get a sticky in the Happy Hour forum. They can even remove the Community Meets Forum Created sticky to make room.
