Lost - 12/8/04 - Spoilers!

Pretty surprising episode, although it was kind of slow. It's not quite over yet, but I must say that I was surprised that they were able to get Charlie back...is that even possible?

Let's talk about the show then!

Wow, they really kept Charlie dead for a long time.

I don't find any of these episodes slow -- they simply unfold at a deliberate pace.

Some folks enjoy fast-action shoot-em up games like Halo; some people prefer exploratory/mystery games like Myst. "Lost" is a Myst show.

C'mon -- it's the end of first week of December. The beginning of January is a long time from now and later in January is, well, later still.

Immediate thoughts from this episode:
- I guess we now know what Jack "did" to his father
- Call me a sap, but I firmly put Jack in the "good guy" category after this episode.

I was also surprised that Charlie didn't have obvious brain damage after he was revived. If nothing else, I'm sure his chest is smarting pretty badly.

Any guesses on what that metal thing is that Locke and Boone found?

that was a bit pathetic with the revival....that was quite a stretch.

He was up there and no breathing for at least 3 minutes.......he's have some bigtime problems!

I don't read the episode descriptions until after watching the show, because I don't want *anything* given away prior to watching. Assuming they are even correct, which at least once in the past a "Lost" episode description has been wrong.

As would somewhat seem to be the case with this show's description; it's either wrong, misleading or simply giving away information prematurely:
Spoiler Alert! (highlight to read)

"Boone and Locke find another island"

The certainly found something. But that?

My guess: The door to the underground power plant!

While I have to assume it was specific to my set up or area, did anyone else receiving Lost via OTA in the NYC metro area have some sort of strange 'banding' at the top of the screen while Sawyer was confronting Sayid in the cave and a few times after that? There was a green 'splotch' that appeared across the top a few times during the episode.

Charlie's resurrection was borrowed from the sequence in "The Abyss".

Ed Harris' wife played by Mary Elizabeth Mastroantonio drowns and only after giving up on CPR and mouth to mouth does Harris stop. Then after a minute or so he beats and shakes her and finally her heart starts.

the difference was that in that scene she was in extremely cold water which has the effect of slowing down bodily systems. In Charlies case, in a warm environment, his brain would start to lose function after only a short period of time

It was cheesy that they revived Charlie. When he startled back to consciousness, both my wife and I were yelling "Oh, come ON" at the TV. Personally, I think it would have been better/more dramatic/more realistic/less of a cop out to leave Charlie dead. Before Jack started "old school" CPR* a second time, I was wondering what they would do with the body - leave it there, try to bury it, try to haul it back to camp....

Locke must have taught backgammon to Walt really well since he was able to handily beat Mr. "17th in a tournament!"

*do doctors even do that sort of chestal beating any more?

You're right on with the "cheese" factor, but I would have been more upset, had they left him dead. Yep, I'm a softie...

A "prediction", if I may:

Spoiler Alert! (highlight to read)

After he was brought back to camp, Charlie twice said "they" only wanted Claire. Jack said, "They? Did you say 'they'?" To which Charlie replied, "All they wanted was Claire."

My prediction?

Multiple abductors (at least two), two victims, two paths.

The abductors split up, one (some) taking Charlie, one (some) taking Claire. Both paths are "correct".

Jack and Kate found Charlie. Locke and Boone are close to Claire. Maybe she's under that metal cover they found.

I don't think so.

I think, and it has been discussed previously, that Walt has magic powers that whatever he wishes for happens.

DH is a doc and his quip during that scene was, "It's a good thing that guy's dead, because Jack just beat him to death." Very surprising when he sat up and took a breath.
