My link actually uses "BB code", which means it looks like this:

{ u r l =http://invasioniowa.spiketv.com}Invasion Iowa{ / u r l }

In the above example:

* Change the { bracket to a [ and the } bracket to a ]
* Remove the extra spaces

Why are they burning it off so quick?

Cool. Let's all plan to meet up at Murphy's Bar & Grill in Riverside, Iowa, during the last week of March to watch our new favorite show!!!

Don't think I haven't thought about it - you know me, I go to great lengths to watch this stuff. My curiosity could be sated, however, by a brief anonymous visit to the town just to see what it's like... I wonder if they're gonna have any parties or anything to watch the show, or if they'll all be nervously sitting in their own living rooms worried that the show will not make them look good. I think even the trailer for the show should calm any such fears.

Re: the schedule for the show. I don't know if it was conceived as a miniseries, but that's what it's been announced as...in fact, touted as Spike's first miniseries ever.

It was Albie's decision to try to capitalize on the success of the recent Sci Fi channel miniserieses.

And it also has the side effect of keeping the diehard fans glued to the TV for four straight nights.

Anyone who comes in here and says "BUT YOU CAN TIVO IT" will be severely yelled at. Yes, I know I can, I have a TiVo! Honest, I do! But as with JS, I'll likely want to watch in real time, if only to come here and talk about it the same night...it's that "shared experience" thing we miss from the old days.

Interesting. I never thought about going to Iowa after the show. That'd be fun-it's probably not all that far from here.

muggum,

In the Invasion Iowa blog ( http://invasioniowa.spiketv.com/ ), you say "The truth lies in the roughly nine hours of television that will start airing on Spike TV in early 2005." How come it got cut down to five hours?

Also, please update the blog. Some people there think it is never going to air since your only post was on 10/27/2004.

The nine hours was born of optimism and the desire to do an extra one hour live special when the whole show was done airing (which we still hope to do).

The series was originally intended to be eight hours, but we found that various story beats that had played out over the course of a few days worked better when compressed into single scenes.

For instance, our 'leading lady' was a kleptomaniac who steals all sorts of crazy stuff. It took place over the course of ten days, and we envisioned it being a running gag that we devoted one scene to in every episode. But it just worked so much better condensed into one extended scene. There were other examples of this, plus a couple key plots that flopped altogether due to underwhelming reactions among the townspeople. It became clear to everyone involved that we had less than eight hours of wall-to-wall television. Thankfully, Spike and GRB agreed that it was better to show five hours of good stuff than to stretch five hours of solid material over eight hours (that's the traditional reality model... stretch and dilute and recap, etc.) The five hours is tight. No season recaps. No scenes without a point. Etc.

Would I have been happier with an eight hour series? Sure. But quality is so much more important than quantity. None of us wanted to sacrifice one upon the altar of the other.

Sorry for the lack of blog entries. There's frankly very little to write about in absence of an airing series. But I'll try to put something up soon!

M

I hate recaps, so I'm okay with that.

And this is a key reason your stuff is so good.

Imagine that...someone producing a "reality" show who believes quality is more important than stretching it out by producing recaps and filler!

I disagree. I believe quality is more important than quality, not vice versa. But that's just me

Sorry Cat, but I have to agree with muggum on this one. Quality is definitely better than quality.

Just my opinion.

Shouldn't that read: You have a right to an opinion, no matter how right it is?

We now have an Iowa premiere scheduled for Tuesday, March 22nd in the town of Riverside. The date coincides with the birthday common to both William Shatner and James Kirk... March 22.

Are there two Riverside, Iowas? Mapquest is telling me there is. One would be a day trip from here. That'd be awesome.

Anyone know where exactly this is?

I beleive it is in the eastern part of the state near a town called Williamsburg.

(Washington county, not the Woodbury one).

Riverside is just south of Iowa City, on the eastern side of the state. Basically, it is about 15 miles south of I-80.

So is this going to be open to the public and if so how do you get tickets?

You can just show up and tell the guy at the door that you're part of Shatner's entourage.
