I think at this point, Muggum's going to have nightmares about a bunch of us descending upon Riverside, Iowa!

If it makes him feel better, I'm pretty sure I'd be too crowd-phobic to go.

However, I was thinking that it might be a good place to go sometime just to tell them (depending on how I feel about the show, and I'm pretty sure I'll like the outcome) that people enjoyed them and don't think they are bumpkins. I know, from growing up in small towns, that visitors are rare and welcome.

I honestly don't know how tickets are going to be distributed, although I think preference will be given to Riverside residents, and the seating will be limited. So, maybe best that people don't jump in their cars quite yet!

You know us...we're nuts. (Then again, I've been known to drive two states away for lunch. )

I'll be more than happy to wait a week, and experience the TV show. We're in March now, as of an hour and 45 minutes ago...only 28 days!

Muggum, just for you, I included a paragraph in my Nielson diary this week on Spike and how they were insane to not order another season of Joe Schmo, the best reality show on the air, and that more reality shows should treat their participants the way Schmo did.

Won't change anything, but it made me feel better.

Nice publicity!!

Oh, Muggum...by the way, I don't know of KCCI plans to send that story up to their network or CNN or something, but the story online will certainly get distributed...KCCI's website is housed by "IBS", which produces a bazillion local TV sites around the country. Here, they do Cleveland ABC affiliate WEWS's "NewsNet5.com", and they do "The(blank)Channel.com" just about everywhere...the (blank) being filled by either the city/region of the station (like Iowa) or the call letters (like KCRA for the NBC affiliate in Sacramento). The local stations' content gets shared a LOT between the IBS sites.

Welcome, sync!

"The show airs on Spike TV starting at 8 p.m. March 29 through April 1."

Huh?

They're talking just about the first episode I hope?!

It's not just a 3 day series is it?

Yep, they turned it into a 4 day mini-series.

I wonder if they figured out the joke about the "Shats" ... the mood hats named after Shatner. "Shat" has a whole other meaning as well ...

As much as we'd like to take credit for the double meaning, this show isn't nearly as dirty as Joe 2.

Shatner is on Today, plugging his new movie and also talking about II. Funny, he told Matt Lauer that it was his idea. Somehow I really doubt that. Any pub that muggm and his show can get is great by me.

Hey all Schmo fans out there! Long time no write. So I'm watching the Game Show Network today at 11am, and who do I see there? Schmo's beloved host Ralph Garman as a contestant!!! Go figure! And if you're wondering... he unfortunately ends up losing on a tiebreaker question.

What game show was it?

I've been catching up with The Family Guy in reruns and it's cool to see his name in the credits from time to time. Looks like he did voices in quite a few episodes.

Garman was also in the opening scene of the final episode of NYPD Blue. He was the attending cop at a crime scene when the detectives show up. Eventually Sipowicz comes in and Garman's character congratulates him about his promotion and the detectives all joke about working with him as their new squad leader. The contrast being all this joviality over the corpse of a naked hooker.

Five days until the big "Invasion Iowa" World Premiere!!!

Hmmm. Let me think about this . . .

Maybe Riverside Mayor Bill Poch has some extra tickets?

I wonder if the senior U.S. Senator from Iowa knows the mayor?

My ex-girlfriend said she used to be good friends with the Senator . . .

But that was before she said something one day she shouldn't have said and they had a big falling out . . .

And that was before I told her I'd stop paying the rent on her apartment because she kept flunking the bar exam and never got around to looking for another job . . .

And that was before she never paid me back all the money I loaned her . . .

Hmmm. Maybe I'll just stay home and watch the premiere on TV on the 29th in my pajamas like everyone else . . .

If you're watching television at the moment, sounds like Shatner is going to be on CNN Headline News's Showbiz Tonight (a program which I hate-I mean, it's HEADLINE News. Not "Just Like Every Other News Channel" Network!! [end rant ])

If I recall from the first Invasion Iowa blog entry, the whole thing started when Muggum and his partner in crime spotted Shatner in an MTV office lobby, and pitched the idea to him.

I was going to post the relevant quotes here, but I don't wanna shatter copyrights directly in front of the man who wrote it So...go to the blog and click "First Contact". The blog is helpfully linked in my sig file...

Good to hear Shatner's getting some big network publicity for this!!!

I just tuned in, and looks like it's coming up soon...

Good news here: this also means it'll likely filter back to the CNN mothership and run on a number of TV stations which pull CNN's feed...

Well, what do ya know...they like it in Riverside! They like it!

From the Fairfield (IA) Daily Ledger:

"Shatner's 'Invasion Iowa' reality show a hit in Riverside"

http://www.zwire.com/site/news.cfm?...9&PAG=461&rfi=9

A snippet...

Quote:

By Mary Zielinski, Golden Triangle News Service March 17, 2005

RIVERSIDE (GTNS) -- "I was so relieved when I learned it was a reality show -- that this was not going to be a cheap movie," said Brooke Lemke, cast member of "Invasion Iowa," the sci-fi movie that wasn't.

Lemke, who played Linda in William Shatner's elaborate hoax that turned out to be a mini-reality series for Spike TV, was among the local cast and crew who watched the first two episodes of the show March 6.

The verdict on it was unanimous: It's funny.

Actually, it's a bit more than that, or as another cast member put it, "It's no cheesy movie that no one will see."

According to Spike TV, there will be an 82 million-person worldwide audience for the show, which, said Steve Miller of Riverside, "makes it bigger than a film."

Based on the content of the first two episodes of the five-hour series, "Invasion Iowa" is neither condescending nor mean-spirited.

Oh, by the way, Shatner's on "The View" on ABC tomorrow morning (11 AM ET, check local listings)

Side note-I hate it when a story I'm interested in isn't shown until the last ten minutes of the program. I should get some kind of reward for that.
